Job description

The Assistant Director of the Extended Day Program is a part-time position, reporting to the Director of Extended Day. This role supports the planning, supervision and daily operations of the school’s Extended Day program.  The individual in this position will be responsible for ensuring program compliance, managing records, and fostering a warm, inclusive environment aligned with The Potomac School’s mission and values. The core hours for this position are 2:00-6:00 pm, Monday-Friday, with full day hours (7:45am to 4:30pm) during the opening week of school, closing week of school, conference days and professional development days.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily Extended Day operations, from student arrival to dismissal, in collaboration with the Director of Extended Day
  • Follow all procedures and guidelines outlined by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) to maintain the exempt from licensure status of the Extended Day program.
  • Maintain accurate student records enrolled in the program per DSS guidelines
  • Maintain and manage 
    • daily attendance roster along with the student dismissal method using the information available in School Pass and Campbrain platforms.
    • allergy list, emergency contacts, medical information and medication/first aid administration log
    • sign-in/sign out procedures, authorized pick up lists, ID checks and late pick-up policies
  • Communicate with parents regarding any student behavior concerns and maintain  documentation
  • Create a supportive environment that helps promote student’s social and emotional development
  • Collaborate with the Director to lead enrichment activities for the students, ensuring that the Extended Day experiences align with The Potomac school’s strategic goals 
  • Work closely with other divisions/departments to coordinate student schedules and transitions across different programs
  • Plan and participate in on-campus activities and/or field trips for child care days, throughout the year
  • Oversee and assist with room set-up, snack preparation and arrival-dismissal procedures along with taking the lead on bus dismissal
  • Monitor snack, recreational, homework time and provide academic support as needed
  • Ensure all equipment and materials are clean and safe
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years of related work experience in a day care or educational setting
  • Knowledge and experience with a Day Care Program is preferred
  • Must be First Aid/CPR and MAT certified (Potomac will cover expenses of these certifications)
  • Must be able to lift and carry large items (up to 25 pounds), easily work on the floor with children, monitor and play outside in all types of weather, and sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must stay up to date with required professional development training as required by Virginia Department of Social Services. (Potomac will cover the expenses for these trainings) 
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems
