Summary
Under the general supervision and direction of the Facilities Supervisor, performs general cleaning and minor maintenance repair work in the care and upkeep of Town buildings, adjacent grounds, and equipment.
This position is scheduled for Saturdays and/or Sundays from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Please indicate whether you are available to work both days or only one day (Saturday or Sunday).
Position Description and Job Functions
  • Receives oral or written instructions from Supervisor, or follows a maintenance schedule.
  • Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and other work areas.
  • Using appropriate equipment, sweeps, strips, and waxes floors.
  • Using appropriate equipment, cleans rugs, carpets, draperies, and Venetian blinds.
  • Washes walls, windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Removes trash.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Performs minor carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical work.
  • Moves furniture.
  • Waters lawns and shrubbery adjacent to building.
  • Shovels snow and sweeps dirt from entrances and walks adjacent to building.
  • Operates snow blower to clear walks or parking lot of snow.
  • Lubricates motor and changes filters on heating and cooling equipment.
  • Uses hand tools and small power equipment.
  • Provides assistance to visitors as needed.
  • Follows all standard safety procedures and regulations.
  • Reports tasks accomplished to Supervisor.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Plants and cares for flowers, shrubbery, and trees on Town property.
  • Sets up rooms for meetings.
  • Assists public using Town facilities by moving equipment, furniture, or materials.
  • Completes daily cleaning tasks in Police Department during work day.
  • Acts as Painter's helper, and fills in for other custodians on sick leave or vacation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and devices used in cleaning operations.
  • Knowledge of practices, tools and materials of mechanical and building trades.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to quickly learn assigned semi-skilled tasks on the job.
  • Ability to recognize and locate conditions which require repair and maintenance work.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to be available for call outs.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, superiors, and the general public.

Conditions and Qualifications
REQUIRED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to perform heavy cleaning, moving, shoveling, lifting over 80 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, etc., up to 60 feet above ground.
  • Ability to work in confined or close quarters including pipes, tunnels, and attics for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate equipment requiring eye and hand coordination and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain or snow.
  • Sufficient stamina and good health to perform strenuous physical labor.
  • Ability to move throughout Town Hall and other Town buildings and sites.
  • Ability to get into and out of and automobile.
  • Ability to work evenings and / or weekends.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from high school or trade school.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
