What is a part time payroll job?

Part time payroll jobs involve processing employee payments, calculating hours worked, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations for organizations, but on a reduced or flexible schedule. These roles often include tasks like updating payroll records, distributing paychecks, and handling payroll queries from employees. Part time payroll professionals may work in-house for a company or through a third-party payroll service provider. The job typically requires attention to detail, confidentiality, and familiarity with payroll software. It's a good fit for those seeking flexible hours while still performing important administrative duties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time payroll specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Payroll Specialist, you need a solid understanding of payroll processes, accounting principles, and relevant labor laws, often backed by experience or coursework in finance or accounting. Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP, QuickBooks, or Paychex, and proficiency in Excel are typically required. Job description

Part-Time Payroll Specialist
Onsite - New York City
Contract $25-28/hr

We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Payroll Specialist for an immediate contract opportunity in New York City. This role is ideal for a seasoned payroll professional who can step in quickly, work independently and confidently manage a semi-monthly payroll process.

This is a very part-time opportunity averaging approximately 20 hours every other week, with hours concentrated around payroll processing dates.

Position Details:
  • Location: New York City – Midtown Manhattan.
  • Schedule: Approximately 20 hours every other week.
  • Work Arrangement: 100% onsite.
  • Assignment: Contract through the end of the year.
  • Start Date: ASAP.
  • Payroll Schedule: Semi-monthly.
  • Flexible scheduling during payroll weeks based on payroll deadlines and candidate availability.

What You'll Do:
  • Process semi-monthly payroll for approximately 200 employees.
  • Support payroll for employees located in New York and Texas.
  • Manage payroll entry and processing leading up to mid-month and end-of-month payroll dates.
  • Review and cross-check payroll information across multiple systems.
  • Reconcile payroll data and identify discrepancies prior to processing.
  • Process occasional bonus and special payroll cycle runs.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.
  • Navigate manual payroll processes across systems that are not fully integrated.

What We're Looking For:
  • Strong hands-on payroll processing experience.
  • Experience independently managing payroll from start to finish.
  • Previous ADP experience required.
  • ADP Resource experience is a plus.
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll; New York and Texas experience preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Comfortable working within multiple systems and performing manual cross-checks.
  • Ability to quickly learn an established payroll process with minimal supervision.
  • Must be dependable and available during critical semi-monthly payroll processing dates.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Midtown Manhattan.

Ideal Candidate:
This role is best suited for someone who has significant payroll experience and does not need extensive training on the fundamentals. You should be comfortable jumping into an established process, identifying discrepancies and making sure payroll is accurate before it goes out the door.

Because of the unique every-other-week schedule, this could be a great fit for an experienced payroll professional looking for consistent part-time contract work without committing to a traditional 40-hour workweek.

Qualified candidates who are available immediately are encouraged to apply.

Apply today by emailing your resume to recruiting@imprimis.com for immediate consideration.
