Position Summary Information
Responsibilities
The officer is responsible for protecting life and property utilizing effective crime prevention techniques, and apprehending criminals. The officer will enforce university, state, and applicable federal laws, regulations, and policies. The officer may be assigned to traffic and crowd control as well as securing buildings after business operations have ceased. The officer must be able to act soundly without direct supervision and to exercise independent judgment in dealing with emergency situations.
Qualifications
Must be physically fit and be able to walk, run, climb, and crawl to the extent prescribed by the Board on Law Enforcement Standards and Training. Candidate must have good verbal communication as well as written communication skills. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle including a car, truck, golf cart, ATV, bicycle, or other all-terrain vehicles. The candidate must be a board-certified police officer.
Salary Commensurate with experience and qualifications Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Applicants must be certified as a Law Enforcement Officer through P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standard and Training) or currently in the Academy.
Must have a valid Mississippi Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Campus Law Enforcement Experience
Sixty hours of College coursework, an Associate's Degree or an undergraduate degree in a related field is preferred.
Special Instructions to Applicants
You must attach proof of certification as a Law Enforcement Officer from a POST agency in MS or another State, and be eligible for transfer if outside MS.
