Description
Holy Spirit Catholic Church is seeking a limited part-time Music Director. The Director of Music assists the Pastor in facilitating the liturgical life of the parish by coordinating and providing music leadership at all parish liturgies. This non-exempt limited part time, 5-10 hours per week position requires primarily weekend and weekday evening availability.
Responsibilities:
  1. The primary responsibilities include the weekly planning, rehearsals, and execution of liturgical music each weekend (Some Saturdays 5:00 PM and every 11:00 AM), Holy Days (mass times may vary), weekly Choir Practice, Cantor Practice before 11:00 AM mass, special feast days, and other parish liturgical events.
    1. The Director of Music works with the pastor in planning and selecting music.
    2. The Director of Music must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Publisher, etc.).
    3. The Director of Music is responsible for ensuring the parish adheres to music license usage and reporting on OneLicense.net.
    4. The Director of Music is responsible for the scheduling of cantors, and auxiliary musicians for weekend, Holy Day, and special Feast Day Masses.
    5. The Director of Music develops alternative types of liturgical music i.e. cantors, choirs & ensembles, various instruments, and facilitates participation at liturgical functions.
  2. The Director of Music is available to plan and provide resources to families and others involved in funerals, weddings, etc. that take place at the parish. The Director of Music assists in vetting outside musicians (cantors & accompanists) involved in funerals, weddings, and other liturgical services of parishioners that take place at the parish or other approved venues, providing necessary guidance regarding selection of music appropriate for Catholic liturgies. Following the Diocesan Musician Guidelines the Director of Music is responsible for ensuring the remuneration of musicians for funerals and weddings.
  3. The Director of Music, along with the Pastor and Business Manager, will prepare an annual budget for licenses, supplies, equipment, etc. needed to enhance the music at liturgical celebrations and other events.
  4. The Director of Music attends and participates in bi-weekly staff meetings, seasonal Liturgy meetings, and periodic planning meetings
  5. The Director of Music is responsible for supervising and rehearsing with cantors, choir, and musicians
  6. The Director of Music is expected to continue personal education and development, as well as to maintain personal, professional, and spiritual development through coursework, reading, seminars, workshops, and retreats.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  1. The Director of Music possesses a master's degree in music (preferrable) or equivalent education.
  2. A minimum of 3-5 years' music ministry experience, instrumental and vocal skills, knowledge and appreciation for Catholic liturgy and music.
  3. Leadership skills.
  4. Experience working with cantors, choirs, and instrumentalists
  5. Catholic in Good Standing
