Job Description

Chamberlain College of Nursing seeks Part-Time Clinical Instructors interested in teaching students in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program located in the Arlington, VA area.

You will be mentoring students in person at an inpatient clinical setting. You'll be making connections between what our students are learning in the classroom and during simulations, with the real-world applications in patient care they are experiencing on-site.ย By bridging this gap, we can ensure that our students are not only well-prepared for their roles as healthcare professionals but also confident in their abilities to provide high-quality care to their patients.

Candidates with a completed MSN are encouraged to apply -ย Teaching experience is not required!

Clinicals are scheduled in a healthcare facility in the Arlington, VA area.

We are presently accepting applications to meet potential future need in the following areas of specialization:

Mentalย Healthย Psychย Nursing:ย 

Students will beย demonstratingย nursing skills and procedures in an inpatient healthcare center.ย Emphasis is on the dynamics of an individual's ability to function in society. The course focuses on contentย relativeย to anxiety,ย self-concept, thought disorders, mood alterations, addictive behaviors, organic brain dysfunction,ย abuse,ย and violence issues.ย ย ย 

Pediatric Nursing:ย ย 

Students will beย demonstratingย nursing skills and procedures in an inpatient healthcare center.ย Family-centered care of children is the focus of this course, exploring issues of normalย childcareย as well as health alterations of children from infancy through adolescence.ย ย 

Maternalย OBย Nursing:ย ย 

Students will beย demonstratingย nursing skills and procedures in an inpatient healthcare center on a Labor & Delivery unit. This course focuses on family-centered approaches to maternal/newborn care and incorporates health promotion and wellness issues. The childbearing cycle, including normal experience, high-risk factors, complications, andย alterationsย are studied.ย 

Complex Adult Healthย Critical Care:ย ย 

Students will beย demonstratingย nursing skills and procedures in an inpatient healthcare center.ย Adult patients with unstable emergent critical illnesses are the focus of this course. Students integrate nursing,ย technologicalย and scientific knowledge with clinical judgment to potentiateย optimalย health with a diverse patient population. Studentsย utilizeย comprehensive assessment techniques, advanced nursingย skillsย and multiple nursing modalities to maximizeย optimalย health.ย ย 

Communityย Publicย Health Nursing:ย 

Students will beย demonstratingย nursing skills and procedures in anย outpatient healthcare center.ย The public/community health nurse's role as a partner with the community to shape conditions supportive of health is emphasized through application of the nursing process, beginning with the assessment of the community's healthย andย wellness.ย ย ย 

Capstone Final Clinical:ย 

As our student'sย final clinical before graduating, thisย courseย facilitatesย the student's transition into professional nursing through an exploration of trends and issues in professional nursing and participation in experiential-based nursing experiences. This culminating clinical practicum focuses on refining skills in the delivery and management of nursing care within the context of legal,ย ethicalย and evidence-based practice.ย 

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Curriculum Implementation
    • Implement the College's philosophy, curriculum, program outcomes, and course objectives through clinical teaching and service.
    • Assume responsibility for all autonomous aspects of individual teaching loads.
    • Plan clinical experiences and provide direct supervision and evaluation of nursing students.
  • Student Evaluation and Support
    • Develop and post written clinical assignments consistent with student's knowledge base, skill competency and individual learning needs.
    • Evaluate and provide documented feedback on performance to students based on course objectives.
    • Be available for remediation of students as required or needed.
    • Correct and return homework, quizzes, tests, lab assignments, clinical paperwork, and other written work in a timely manner.
  • Clinical Coordination
    • Orient and maintain current knowledge related to clinical site policies, procedures, and expectations with the assistance of the clinical site personnel.
    • Develop and post written clinical assignments consistent with students' knowledge base, skill competency, and individual learning needs.

    • Maintain visibility while staying available to staff and students at the clinical site.
  • Program and College Development
    • Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the programs and the College.

    • May teach simulation/skills lab and/or didactic course content under supervision of course coordinator.
  • Professionalism and Collaboration
    • Serve as a professional role model for other faculty, staff, and students.
    • Utilize relationship skills in situations requiring group problem solving, consensus building, and win-win negotiation.
    • Work with college administration, staff, and other faculty members to improve the overall operation of the college and student satisfaction rates.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
    • Comply with all applicable regulatory rules and standards.
    • Keep the course coordinator informed of all student and agency issues and concerns.
    • Report to the dean or assistant dean, with direct oversight from a course coordinator.
  • Handle related duties and perform other duties as assigned, comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • A master'sย or doctoral degreeย in Nursingย from a regionally accredited college or university
  • An unencumbered professional nursing license in VA
  • At leastย two years professional experience within last five years in the area of instructionย as a registered nurse
  • Live within a reasonable proximity of Arlington, VAย - will be teaching at the clinical locations assigned per session
  • Teaching or precepting experience is preferred but not required
  • Haveย genuine passion for nursing, education, and lifelong learning
  • Haveย exceptional subject matter expertise with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Are eager to serve students andย colleagues with passion, respect and care

Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is $75 per hour.
