Job description

SUMMARY
We are seeking an enthusiastic retail associate to join our dynamic team! As a retail associate, you will facilitate the checkout process at the Wellpinit Trading Post. He/she will provide excellent customer service while operating the register, accept payments, deliver receipts, bag groceries and assist customers with merchandise; in addition, maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
DESCRIPTION
Title: Cashier
Work Schedule: Part-time/Non-exempt. Scheduled nights and weekends up to 25 hours per week. Flexible shifts are required (all days of the week and hours, holiday and special events). Work schedule is contingent and determined by business needs.
Reports to: Wellpinit Trading Post Lead Cashier
Location: Wellpinit, WA

KEY ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide excellent customer service to all patrons via Spokane Tribal Enterprises (STE) policies and procedures.
  • Conducts sales transactions quickly and accurately.
  • Operates a cash register by scanning all merchandise UPCs, to display retail pricing of customer purchases on the display monitor.
  • Enters all transactions into the cash register, accepts payment and accounts for all funds.
  • Reviews and checks customer credit cards and identification, strictly following policies and procedures. Obtains electronic authorization for all charges.
  • Issues sale receipts to all customers, and counts back the correct change to all cash paying customers.
  • Performs duties displayed on Trading Post cleaning and daily task lists; stocks and merchandises as instructed by management.
  • Accomplishes shift changes by documenting unit inventory counts of tobacco products and cash register counts at the beginning and end of every shift.
  • Works with customers to identify needs and resolves any complaints and problems.
  • Takes measures to preserve the safety of employees and all others in the work location. Wears required safety equipment.
  • Verifies the age of customers purchasing alcohol or tobacco products and enters the customer's date of birth into the cash register.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

TRAITS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Punctuality and consistency in time and attendance required.
  • Must work flexible shifts (all days of the week) and hours, holidays, and special events.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, in addition to encompassing the ability to deal effectively with people in multifaceted work environment.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism during stressful situations and conditions.
  • Abide by all safety guidelines and familiarize and follow all Tribal, Federal and applicable Washington State laws pertaining to convenience store operations.

Customer Service
  • Adheres to all customer service standards when recommending products/services, and when providing customers with information.
  • Courteous, business-like contact with co-workers, customers, vendors, and community at large.
  • Neat appearance and good personal hygiene, in compliance with Spokane Tribal Enterprise's standards.
  • Assists in other departments/enterprises, as needed.

Communication
  • Communicates openly and honestly with all others within the Spokane Tribal Enterprises.
  • Communicates respectfully at all times.
  • Does not expose customers to internal disagreements.
  • Resolves conflict respectfully and in a timely manner, asks for assistance from supervisor, as needed.
  • Participates actively in department/enterprise meetings and training sessions.

  • Reports to work for all scheduled shifts, on time and in appropriate dress attire.
  • Understands and adheres to Spokane Tribal Enterprise's Policies and Procedures.

COMPENSATION
Pay rate $17.25 per hour, part-time, non-exempt. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval.
