Position Title: Retail Associate

Accountability: Retail Associates report to the Lead/Manager for that retail location

Job Classification: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt, non-seasonal


About: Daniel Stowe Conservancy (Stowe) inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Stowe provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.

The Retail Associate is an integral member of the retail services team who may work at any one or more of our retail locations – Farmhouse Garden Center, Trailhead Store, Big Leaf Café + Shop or Garden Bars. While an Associate may work at different locations, their direct manager will be the one at their home base retail location where they will work most of their hours. This role will ensure that products and services offered through the Garden’s retail locations are current and relevant and successfully meeting the needs of our guests, while ultimately providing a source of revenue for Stowe’s mission. An ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, superb attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and represent the organization in the highest form.


** Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and some federal holidays.**


Responsibilities

  • Understands the importance of each guest to Stowe and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
  • Effectively executes opening and closing duties in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Serves guests in retail transactions, prepare coffee and mixed espresso drinks, pouring alcoholic beverages, and promoting merchandise.
  • Maintains a standard of excellence throughout all retail locations, representing and modeling the highest quality of customer service.
  • Provides support, decisions and solutions on requests or conflicts that arise in guest relations.
  • Promotes recreational opportunities, rentals, and transactions, providing information to our guests on current offerings and opportunities.
  • Helps the retail lead and manager support other Stowe team members on special events, festivals, and musical performances taking place at or near retail locations.
  • Assist retail Lead and Manager with inventory counts and fulfillment needs.
  • Share new products and promotions with guests.
  • Maintains the preferred point of sale systems for recording transactions, inventories, and sales reporting.
  • Exemplifies Stowe’s Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
  • Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.


Requirements:


  • Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Conservancy.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Successfully pass a standard background review.
  • Must obtain and maintain the ABC Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Training and Certificate before employment confirmation.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, and some federal holidays.
  • Must have reliable transportation to the Garden.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, change oriented environment

Experience & Education

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Minimum of 1 year in customer service or sales.
  • Service industry experience in serving alcohol and coffee drinks preferred.
  • Retail experience merchandising, cash management, inventory control, vendor relationships, and budget adherence.
  • Ability to make financial assessments regarding sales, goals, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience.
  • Ability to work in a team yet also independently.
