Part Time Nasa Without Degree information

Can I work part-time at NASA without a degree?

Yes, it is possible to work part-time at NASA without a college degree, although most positions require at least some college education. NASA offers a variety of internships, apprenticeships, and support roles that may not require a full degree, especially in administrative, technical, or support areas. Demonstrated skills, certifications, or relevant experience can sometimes substitute for formal education. However, for most scientific, engineering, and research roles, a degree is typically required. It's best to check NASA's official job postings for specific qualifications and opportunities.

What types of part-time positions are available at NASA for candidates without a degree, and what are the typical responsibilities?

NASA offers a range of part-time opportunities for individuals without a degree, such as administrative support, facility maintenance, and certain technical assistant roles. These positions often involve tasks like data entry, scheduling, equipment support, or assisting with outreach and educational programs. While these roles may not involve direct scientific research, they are essential to the smooth operation of NASA’s projects. Teamwork and adaptability are important, as you’ll often collaborate with professionals from various departments. These roles can also provide valuable experience and pathways to advance within the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time NASA team member without a degree, and why are they important?

To thrive in a part-time position at NASA without a degree, candidates typically need strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and relevant hands-on experience in areas like administration, technical support, or skilled trades. Familiarity with specialized tools, software (such as Microsoft Office Suite or technical equipment relevant to the role), and on-the-job certifications can be highly advantageous. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for contributing effectively within NASA’s collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. These qualities enable individuals to support NASA’s missions and operations efficiently, even in non-degree roles, ensuring high standards of performance and safety.

ASRC Federal AFSS is a premier provider of systems engineering, software engineering, system integration and project management support for real-time, mission-critical defense systems. We are seeking a Part-Time Project Support Specialist to provide senior level support to a NASA contract in Greenbelt, MD.

Job Description:

Provide part-time, on-site project support to the Moon to Mars Space Weather Analysis Office (M2M SWAO) within the Heliophysics Science Division (Code 670) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). M2M SWAO conducts critical, real-time space weather analysis for NASA missions across the solar system. This role requires a proactive, self-sufficient problem-solver and confident communicator. The ideal candidate will seamlessly interface with diverse teams and executive leadership to ensure continuous, efficient, and welcoming office operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Operations Room Coordination: Serve as the coordinator for the M2M SWAO daily operations room, which provides 24/7 monitoring of solar activity during critical missions (Artemis, launches), by troubleshooting equipment, ensuring a safe and orderly facility, and acting as a knowledgeable, welcoming presence for analysts and visitors.
  • Analyst Scheduling & Readiness: Manage shift scheduling of assigned analysts, track travel and leave, ensure back-up coverage, and monitor team fatigue and workload and adjust schedule accordingly to ensure readiness and continuous, optimized mission support.
  • Meeting & Event Facilitation: Drive the execution of daily hybrid tag-ups, meet-ups, briefings, and special events by managing badging, A/V setup, note-taking, and action-item tracking to ensure seamless communication. Represent the organization and communicate critical information in the absence of the Director and Deputy Director.
  • Executive Calendar Management: Manage and forecast calendars for the Director and Deputy Director to prevent conflicts, ensure workday balance, and align daily activities with the office's strategic goals.
  • Technical Writing & Process Development: Create, edit, and deliver presentations, reports, and project documentation. Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs), internal workflows, and work instructions to standardize and improve services. Organizes tasks and projects using MS Planner or similar tool.
  • Comprehensive Office Administration: Provide full-spectrum office support to maintain efficient daily operations. This include managing records and updating electronic files; preparing official NASA correspondence and shipping documents; managing supply inventories; and coordinating facility logistics, office moves, IT requests, and property tracking.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work on-site at NASA GSFC in Greenbelt, MD, five days a week, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (20 hours/week). Flexibility to work additional hours during surge periods.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Proven ability to anticipate needs, create efficient process flows, and comfortably interface with executive-level leadership, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Highly capable of balancing multiple priorities, taking direction from leadership, tracking complex tasks, and rapidly distributing information across teams.
  • Outstanding customer services skills; must be proactive and responsive to customer requests. Ability to learn quickly and think critically to create innovative solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with MS Planner is a plus.
  • Must meet government NAC and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC. An extensive background investigation is required.

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of professional experience (or 7 years of experience without a bachelor’s degree). Education, training, or demonstrated interest in heliophysics or a STEM-related field is preferred.
