Job Description

Position Title: Part-Time Music Teacher
Reports To: Principal / Executive Director
Location: El Paso Bridges Academy
Position Type: Part-Time (approx. 10–15 hours/week, schedule based on student programming needs)

Primary Purpose

The Part-Time Music Teacher will provide engaging, inclusive, and adaptive music instruction designed to support the intellectual, emotional, social, and creative development of neurodiverse students. The teacher will foster a safe and supportive classroom environment where students can explore music through performance, rhythm, movement, and creative expression.

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education or related field
  • Valid state teaching certification preferred.
  • Specialized training or coursework in Special Education, Music Therapy, or related areas is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of classroom or small-group teaching experience.
  • Experience working with neurodiverse learners (Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of music theory, performance, and a variety of instruments and vocal techniques.
  • Ability to design and deliver differentiated instruction that engages neurodiverse learners.
  • Strong classroom management skills that emphasize positive reinforcement, patience, and empathy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, students, and families.
  • Ability to integrate technology, movement, and multisensory approaches into music lessons.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate and ability-sensitive music curriculum aligned with student needs.
  • Provide instruction in vocal and/or instrumental music, rhythm, movement, and music appreciation.
  • Adapt lessons and activities to accommodate a variety of learning styles and sensory needs.
  • Encourage student participation in performances, showcases, or school events.
  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to support student success.
  • Create a classroom environment that is inclusive, safe, and supportive of neurodiverse learners.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, participation, and accommodations.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission of El Paso Bridges Academy.

Work Conditions

  • Part-time schedule with flexibility based on school needs.
  • Classroom and performance setting; occasional after-school or event hours may be required.
  • Direct interaction with students in small-group and one-on-one settings.
