Job description

Department: Visitor Development

FLSA Status: Part-Time / Non-Exempt

Reports to: Cafe Manager, Cafe Lead, Director of Visitor Development

Compensation: $16.50 / hr. + Gratuity

Direct Reports: Cafe Associate (circumstantial)

Summary: Our Catering Coordinator is the primary contact and resident expert on providing a wonderful catering experience within Delish | Delicioso, the museum cafe. They will sell, design, and deliver the very best culinary experiences we may offer to birthday parties, school lunches, proms, and more! Learn how to perform exceptional phone sales and event coordination to provide the perfect experience for guests. Craft a culinary aesthetic standard for the museum, tailored for varying events. Elevate the museum team and experience with their enthusiasm, artistry, and effort!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make sales calls to potential event guests.

  • Promote specials and increase sales for upcoming events.

  • Organize all catering needs & information, corresponding with coworkers and external contacts.

  • Ordering equipment, food, consumables, and decor for orders.

  • Communicating with team members to ensure orders are fulfilled in a timely manner.

  • Maintain accurate log sheets of kitchen inventory, equipment condition, and cleaning routines.

  • Evaluate marketing and signage needs with Cafe Manager and work with the Marketing team to generate materials for outreach.

  • Prepare for compliance with routine inspections from the Maricopa County Environmental Health Department and other regulatory agencies.

  • Monitor foods using FIFO and active HACCP Plan compliance.

  • Introduce and instruct catering policy to all Associates.

  • General housekeeping duties including sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping all areas as necessary.

  • Enforce all Museum safety protocols.

  • Process credit cards, cash, and other monetary transactions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Meet department revenue goals.

  • Communicate positively and professionally to co-workers in all levels of the organization.

  • Open/close/balance daily cash drawer(s).

  • Count special event cash drawers as needed.

  • Stay up to date on museum policies, exhibits, and events.

  • Work with a high level of energy, strong work ethic, and sense of excitement.

  • Complete professional development activities as required by the Cafe Manager.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification/Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 1 Year of Foodservice or Phone Sales experience. 

  • 1 Year of cash-handling experience. 

  • Open Availability with 24 hours minimum.

  • Mandatory weekend and evening availability, consistent daytime availability. 

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills and a general customer-service orientation. 

  • Strong ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines and changing environments. 

  • Experience working with children and families. 

  • Comfortable in large groups of people or crowds. 

  • Computer literacy and communication skills with Microsoft Office applications. 

  • Basic Mathematic Skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). 

  • Fluency in Spanish and/or other languages desirable. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Position receives circumstantial team leadership roles – running staff for events, requesting assistance for order assembly & delivery, etc. as assigned by Café Manager. Team lead responsibilities may be needed during high-volume time periods to ensure quality control of food items and positive staff experience.  

Education/Training/Experience: 

  • High School graduate or GED. 

  • Must meet requirements of employment background check. 

  • Must have or obtain a Food Protection Manager card within a calendar year of hiring. 

Language Skills: Ability to “cold” call event hosts for sales inquiries and ordering. Positive demeanor and language to answer guest inquiries or complaints. Structured sales language usage to increase sales. Professional and succinct communication with Café Management. Professional interdepartmental communication. Loud and pronounced kitchen callouts. 

Mathematical Skills: Arithmetic skills capable for counting cash. Fraction/decimal/percentage work for following recipes and portioning dishes. Basic algebraic knowledge for reporting information and cost vs. price calculations for Café Manager. Time management and time calculation skills for catering orders. 

Computer Skills: Knowledge of the Toast Point-of-Sale systems, Kitchen Display Systems, and Kiosks. Computer navigation for Microsoft Office applications and communication with other staff. Knowledge of phone communication. Processing transactions and working with encryption programs to facilitate sensitive information between CMOP and event hosts. 

Physical Requirements: 

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain standing and moving in a stimulating environment for up to 12 hours and must have good communication skills (i.e., communicate clearly and effectively in both written and spoken English). The employee must be able to see well and able read fine print and comprehend shorthand information. This job regularly requires lifting and moving boxes up to 35 lb. Must be able to vocalize regularly and clearly for safe kitchen navigation. 

Environmental Requirements: 

Must be able to work in a well-lit work area with fluctuating temperatures due to use of commercial ovens. May also be exposed to extreme weather conditions with constant ambient noise levels. Employee must be able to be around guests, adult and child, continually. Must be able to work in open areas with other employees. Must be able to work around knives, slicers, and other sharp objects. Must be able to operate with unpleasant smells and sounds for periods of up to 12 hours continuously.
