Job description

Academic Alliance in Dermatology is hiring a part-time Medical Assistant to join our outpatient dermatology clinic in Clearwater, FL. This Medical Assistant will assist by preparing procedure trays, stocking and preparing exam rooms, and assisting with patient care.

Schedule: Part-time | 3 days per week | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

  • Tuesday: Belcher office – Clearwater, FL
  • Wednesday: Countryside office – Clearwater, FL
  • Third day: Candidate may choose Monday, Thursday, or Friday

The third day will serve as a float day, providing coverage at other Academic Alliance in Dermatology locations throughout the Clearwater and Tampa area as needed. Candidates should be comfortable traveling on this day.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Escort and room patients, verify patient information, and relevant medical history.
  • Prepare exam rooms, procedure trays, instruments, medications, and equipment for dermatology visits and procedures.
  • Assist providers with patient care, minor surgical procedures, injections, and other in-office treatments.
  • Prepare pathology and laboratory specimens and ensure proper handling and routing.
  • Review wound care instructions and other provider-directed education with patients.
  • Respond to patient questions, phone messages, nurse-line tasks, and clinical follow-up needs in a timely manner.
  • Clean, disinfect, sterilize, and maintain medical instruments and equipment according to infection-control standards.
  • Monitor, order, restock, and maintain inventory of medications, medical supplies, and exam room materials.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow all HIPAA, safety, and infection-control requirements.
  • Support overall patient flow and clinic operations and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn/use an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, and bloodborne pathogen standards.
  • Ability to travel to other Academic Alliance in Dermatology locations as needed.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous Medical Assistant or dermatology experience.
  • Experience obtaining vital signs/patient intake and preparing patients for exams or procedures.
  • Experience administering injections or assisting with clinical procedures.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, EMR systems, CPT, and ICD-10 coding.
  • Experience triaging patient questions or clinical concerns.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred, but not required.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med, pre-PA, or related healthcare field are also encouraged to apply.
  • 1-2 years of Medical Assistant, CNA, or other hands-on clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous dermatology experience is a plus, but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and use of hands and fingers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • This role may involve exposure to infectious materials, chemicals, and sharp instruments while following established safety and infection-control procedures.
