Job Summary:
In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project's mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's mechanical aspects are met. You will meet with your lead prior to starting activities to discuss approach, process, schedule, and other expectations. We currently have multiple positions available on our Nuclear, Security & Environmental projects. Potential project locations include Oak Ridge, TN, Knoxville, TN, Ogden, UT and Reston, VA. Our Talent Acquisition team can help determine which projects/roles best fit your background and interests.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
  • Participates in the design, development and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
  • Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
  • Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
  • Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 4 years of active-duty military service in the United States Armed Forces, with an honorable discharge.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.
  • Experience in fluid system design in processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities preferred.
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining EIT or Professional Registration (PE) License in Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering within one (1) year of hire date.
