Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for executing assignments concerned with Nuclear Engineering. This position has technical responsibility for evaluating, selecting and interpreting standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.  This involves performing assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for the Nuclear Engineering discipline.  Additionally, this position will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the teaming partners in the development of the design.  The ideal candidate will have experience in nuclear engineering and will be capable of contributing to design data/documents that incorporate the applicable design. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, within the company and to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. 

Major Responsibilities:
  • Work to discipline work processes and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
  • Work with the project team to ensure compliance with technical and safety requirements by detailed design.
  • Be accountable for error-free deliverables.
  • Develop/review technical reports and studies, design documentation, and calculations using engineering software.
  • Work in an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities. 
  • Deliver on meaningful goals working with the team.
  • Work to plans to ensure schedules are met and stakeholder requirements are satisfied.
  • Contribute to the cost-effective design for the entire facility.
  • Contribute to design calculations and drawings for the design of radioactive waste systems. This includes performance of equipment sizing calculations, equipment specifications and technical bid evaluations from equipment vendors.
  • Perform radiation dose and shielding calculations for plant systems and equipment. 
  • Perform other related work as assigned by the supervisor.    
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Level 1: BS or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another technical field from an accredited university or college with 1-2 years of progressive related experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Level 2: BS or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or another technical field from an accredited university or college with 2-5 years of progressive related experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Related experience includes experience in nuclear design.
  • Must have basic knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • A professional Engineer-In-Training (EIT) license from a recognized licensing board, or a sufficient number of specialized courses in relevant general engineering or nuclear engineering to meet job requirements, and developmental experience such as practical work experience in design engineering or other relevant types of engineering such as systems startup, field engineering, or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants or other engineering/construction firms. 
  • Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills. 
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • US citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Experience on large engineering design projects.
  • Experience with performing radiation dose and shielding analyses and associated computer programs. 
  • Previous Bechtel and/or government project experience.
