Job Description

As Director of Marketing and Public Relations, you will lead the integrated marketing and communications strategy for Fairmont Kea Lani, shaping how the resort is shared, experienced and understood in the world. This role is responsible for elevating brand positioning, driving demand, and bolstering reputation through thoughtful storytelling, strategic media relations, and high-impact marketing initiatives. You will champion both the Fairmont brand and the destination of Wailea & Maui, ensuring Hawaiian culture is thoughtfully and authentically woven into every expression of the resort experience.

Salary range: $110,000-$133,000

What you will be doing:

Overarching Responsibilities:

  • Serve as strategic lead for all marketing, public relations, digital, and branding initiatives at Fairmont Kea Lani, architecting enterprise-level campaigns that enhance brand equity, drive multi-million-dollar revenue growth, and position the resort as a global leader in luxury hospitality.
  • Direct a high-performing in-house team and cross-functional agency network, overseeing advertising, digital media, public relations, social, creative, design, and influencer programs to ensure alignment with brand vision and business objectives.
  • Steward community engagement and corporate social responsibility efforts, managing charitable giving, nonprofit partnerships, and local/global promotional initiatives to align philanthropy and brand purpose.
  • Contribute as a core member of resort leadership team, guiding business priorities, long-range planning, and cross-functional initiatives to ensure integrated brand and operational excellence.
  • Lead the development and delivery of monthly corporate and ownership reports, presentations, and strategic performance updates to support executive decision-making and business alignment.
  • Cultivate and manage high-value relationships with destination partners, industry organizations, brand stakeholders, and media to expand market visibility, strategic partnerships, and brand opportunity.
  • Oversee monthly forecasting, accruals, and budget management across key Sales & Marketing general ledger accounts, ensuring financial accuracy, accountability, and alignment with business objectives.

Public Relations & Communications:

  • Develop and execute integrated annual public relations and communications strategies that strengthen brand positioning, support revenue generation goals, and drive visibility across local, regional, national, and international markets.
  • Serve as a primary media and communications contact for the resort, acting as spokesperson and liaison for media, industry partners, influencers, broadcast opportunities, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead all public relations initiatives including media outreach, press releases, media pitches, press kits, editor advisories, calendar listings, creative messaging, and storytelling opportunities.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with key media, industry, tourism, and brand partners to expand awareness, secure high-value coverage, and support business objectives.
  • Oversee on-property media visits, interviews, filming, photography, video shoots, and broadcast opportunities in accordance with corporate brand standards and approved supplier guidelines.
  • Partner closely with Fairmont corporate communications and brand teams to execute brand initiatives, ensure alignment with corporate mandates, and uphold consistent brand standards, messaging, and positioning across all channels and touchpoints.
  • Champion community relations, charitable partnerships, environmental and social impact initiatives, and corporate social responsibility programming to elevate both resort and brand presence within the community.
  • Manage reputation and review response strategy across select guest review and feedback platforms to support guest satisfaction and brand perception.
  • Maintain comprehensive media lists and an up-to-date library of photography, video, and press assets, including documentation of media visits, events, and special programming.
  • Identify and pursue strategic awards, recognitions, and industry accolades, managing nomination development and submission processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operational departments to develop guest-facing communication materials that enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Lead crisis communications strategy and execution, including development of internal and external messaging, media statements, response protocols, and reputation management efforts.

Marketing:

  • Collaborate with corporate digital marketing teams to develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns that drive revenue performance, brand awareness, and ongoing optimization across key channels.
  • Partner closely with resort leadership, including the Director of Revenue Management and Director of Sales & Marketing, to align marketing strategy with revenue targets, business priorities, and efficiency goals.
  • Identify and execute strategic marketing opportunities, partnerships, and campaigns to drive transient, group, and ancillary revenue across the resort.
  • Oversee all digital touchpoints including resort, restaurant, and third-party partner websites to ensure accuracy, optimization, brand consistency, and performance.
  • Lead marketing strategy and campaign development for all resort outlets and experiences, including dining, spa, beach and pool programming, and seasonal initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight of resort social media channels, including content planning, creative direction, brand alignment, audience growth, and performance analysis.
  • Manage development and oversight of digital and creative assets including photography, videography, advertising creative, graphic design, collateral, signage, and branded materials across all resort departments.
  • Develop annual marketing strategies, campaign plans, and budgets for Fairmont Kea Lani and its key outlets, ensuring alignment with brand objectives and revenue goals.
  • Cultivate non-traditional marketing opportunities, media collaborations, and strategic partnerships that expand brand reach and enhance market positioning.

Internal Communications:

  • Provide strategic communications support, messaging development, and writing/editing assistance for executive leadership and key internal communication initiatives.
  • Advise on and develop content for internal communication channels to ensure consistent messaging, colleague engagement, and alignment with resort priorities and brand values.
  • Develop marketing and public relations initiatives that support employee engagement, culture-building, and internal brand advocacy.
  • Provide media training and crisis communications guidance to resort colleagues and leadership as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the resort crisis response team, supporting emergency communications, health and safety messaging, and response protocols.
  • Foster a culture of aloha through engaging, personalized, timely, and professional communication and service for both internal and external audiences.

Schedule:  Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, employees are required to work varying schedules, including overnight, weekends and holidays, to accommodate the business and demands of the hotel. 

    Qualifications

    Your experience and skills include:

    • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to represent the resort and brand with professionalism and confidence
    • Strategic, creative, and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced luxury hospitality environment
    • Strong understanding of integrated marketing, public relations, brand positioning, digital marketing, and crisis communications
    • Proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with media, influencers, industry partners, and community stakeholders
    • Experience leading creative campaigns, storytelling initiatives, media relations, and high-profile partnerships
    • Strong project management, administrative, and budget management skills with keen attention to detail
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with website, social media, and digital marketing platforms
    • Appreciation for Hawaiian culture and a commitment to authentically promoting the destination of Maui

    Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or brand management, preferably within luxury hospitality or travel
    • Experience managing integrated marketing campaigns, media relations, website content, social media strategy, and creative production required
    • Minimum 2 years of experience leading and developing high-performing teams
    • Previous professional experience working in Hawaiʻi preferred

    Education:

    • Post-secondary degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Hospitality, Business, or related field preferred
