Division:  Laundry (LAU009)

Band 1U

MKR Laundry Attendant I

 

Primary Responsibilities:  

Assigned to laundry operations that utilize employees who perform a combination of “wet” and “dry” wash functions.  Perform all work required in the processing of sorting, spotting, washing, drying, folding and finishing of all items that require cleaning.  The duties include the operation of washer, dryer, steam tunnel and dry cleaning machine units.  Also perform incidental duties required in the proper storage of chemicals and upkeep of such items.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare, load and operate washer and dryer.
  • Unload washer and dryer.
  • Sort and spot treat clothing and linen.
  • Operate steam tunnel, folders and dry cleaning machines.
  • Read care labels to properly treat and clean clothing, uniforms and linen.
  • Inspect uniforms; may do minor repairs.
  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Proper storage of chemicals.
  • Follow safety procedures and policies and the proper handling of chemicals and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work station
  • Keep equipment clean and report any problems.
  • Perform the duties of lower rated laundry attendants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:

  • Stack and count linen
  • Empty trash cans in work area, refill water jugs.
  • Open new linen.

Working Conditions: 

  • Works in an air-conditioned laundry facility.
  • Noise from washer, dryer and other equipment; lint and dust.
  • May work around hot equipment such as pressers, dryers and iron.

 

Work Hours:

  • Able to work shift and days determined Manager
  • Able to work more than 40 hours in a week when needed.

 

Equipment Use:

  • Telephone
  • Operate washer, dryer, steam tunnel and dry cleaning machine, folding machine, laundry carousel, pressing/ironer machines, folding machine.

 

Mental and Physical Demands:

  • Able to prioritize and organize workload.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Push/pull laundry carts weighing more than 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand and walk during most of shift.
  • Bend to load/unload laundry from machines/carts to run through machines during most of shift.
  • Reach and hang and remove laundry from carousel.

 

Communication Demands:

  • Able to communicate verbally to employees, managers and guests/clients.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and count to complete requisitions; read labels on items being laundered
