What is a part time management consulting job?

A Part Time Management Consulting job involves providing strategic advice and problem-solving support to businesses on a flexible, reduced-hour basis. Consultants in this role typically assist clients with strategy, operations, process improvements, or other business challenges without committing to a full-time position. This can be ideal for experienced professionals seeking work-life balance or those looking to diversify their portfolio of projects. Part-time consultants may work independently, with a consulting firm, or on contract-based assignments. Compensation and responsibilities vary based on expertise, industry, and client needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in part time management consulting?

To excel in part time management consulting, professionals typically need a background in business, finance, or a related field, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with project management software, spreadsheet tools like Excel, and sometimes certifications such as PMP or Lean Six Sigma can be valuable. Exceptional communication, adaptability, and interpersonal skills help consultants build trust with clients and collaborate effectively. These capabilities ensure that consultants deliver impactful recommendations and drive measurable improvements for their clients within limited time commitments.

What types of projects or clients can I expect to work with as a part time management consultant?

As a part time management consultant, you'll typically engage with a diverse range of clients, from small businesses seeking operational improvements to larger organizations needing support for specific, time-bound initiatives. Your assignments may include process optimization, market analysis, strategy development, or change management, depending on your expertise and client needs. Part time consultants often work on focused projects, allowing you to contribute meaningfully without the full-time commitment, while often collaborating closely with client stakeholders and internal teams. This variety can provide valuable experience and opportunities to grow your consulting skill set while maintaining flexible work hours.

Travel: This position requires regular travel to partner school sites throughout the Minneapolis area, typically 4-8 days per month (subject to change). Consultants should expect to spend the majority of their working time on-site supporting schools, educators, and leaders, with assignments generally requiring up to 6-8 hours per day at partner schools.

In this role, you will work directly with teachers, school leaders, and district partners to strengthen classroom environments, implement effective instructional and behavioral practices, and support schools in creating safe, structured, and engaging learning experiences for students. This position is ideal for an educator or school leader with experience working in highly restrictive or specialized educational settings who is passionate about helping schools improve outcomes for students with complex needs.
The Educational Consultant, Special Programs reports to the Managing Director, Strategy and Impact.
What You'll Do

  • Conduct observations of classrooms, programs, and schoolwide practices to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop actionable recommendations that help schools create safe, structured, and engaging learning environments.
  • Support schools in increasing instructional time, reducing disruptions, and improving student engagement and outcomes.
  • Monitor progress toward identified goals and adjust support based on school and student needs.

  • Provide job-embedded coaching to teachers, instructional staff, and school leaders serving students with significant behavioral, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Model evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices that promote student learning and engagement.
  • Facilitate professional learning sessions, collaborative planning meetings, and coaching conversations.
  • Support educators in implementing consistent classroom routines, expectations, and behavior support strategies.
  • Build staff capacity to independently sustain effective practices over time.

Student Behavior & Learning Supports

  • Partner with educators to create classroom environments that promote safety, predictability, and positive student behavior.
  • Assist teams in analyzing student behavior and learning data to identify trends and inform interventions.
  • Provide guidance on evidence-based approaches for supporting students with complex behavioral and learning needs.
  • Collaborate with school teams to strengthen systems that support both student well-being and academic achievement.

Partnership & Collaboration
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, school leaders, district partners, students, and families as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Lavinia Group team members to ensure alignment of services and partner support.
  • Document observations, recommendations, progress, and next steps for partner schools.
  • Travel to school sites throughout the Minneapolis area to provide on-site support and coaching.
  • Contribute to additional projects and initiatives as needed to support organizational goals.

Other Duties
  • Support the team with additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to help meet evolving organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications
Required

  • 5+ years of experience in K-12 education
  • Experience working in special education settings serving students with significant behavioral, emotional, and/or learning needs
  • Experience supporting students in highly restrictive educational environments, alternative learning programs, behavioral support programs, or Minnesota Setting IV programs
  • Demonstrated success improving classroom culture, student behavior, and learning outcomes in challenging educational settings
  • Ability to build trust and effectively coach teachers, school leaders, and support staff
  • Ability to travel regularly to school sites throughout the Minneapolis area

Preferred
  • Minnesota Special Education licensure
  • Experience in Minnesota Setting IV programs
