Familiarity with cleaning equipment, hand tools, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations is important, and completion of STCW Basic Safety Training may be required. This position is typically the first step for those pursuing a career in marine engineering or as a ship’s engineer. With experience and further training, wipers can advance to more specialized roles within the engine department.
