Primary Function
The Audio, Video & Lighting AVL Tech lead works in collaboration with the Worship Arts Director to provide technical excellence for worship services and special events. This role is responsible for the oversight, operation, and maintenance of all Audio, Visual, and Lighting (AVL) systems, with a primary focus on building and leading a sustainable volunteer team that facilitates an environment of worship.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Sunday & Event Execution
Lead the operation of AVL systems for all Sunday services (8:30, 9:30, and 11:00 AM).
Ensure all technical elements (lyrics, videos, lighting cues, and audio mixes) are prepared and tested prior to rehearsals and services.
Provide technical support for occasional special services (Good Friday, Christmas Eve, etc.).
2. Volunteer Leadership & Development
Recruit, train, and mentor a team of volunteers to operate sound, lights, and media.
Manage the scheduling of production volunteers via Planning Center Services.
Develop a "training pipeline" to help new volunteers move from observers to confident operators.
Cultivate a team culture that is pastorally minded and focused on serving the congregation.
3. Technical Oversight & Maintenance
Attend weekly Thursday evening worship rehearsals to dial in technical needs.
Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and firmware updates on AVL equipment.
Manage the production budget and equipment inventory in partnership with the Worship Arts Director.
Assist in the planning and implementation of future technical upgrades.
Qualifications
Character: A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the SLCC Affirmation of Faith.
Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of live audio mixing (digital consoles), stage lighting (DMX/software control), and video presentation software (e.g., ProPresenter).
Leadership: A proven ability to teach technical concepts to non-experts and lead a diverse volunteer team.
Communication: Strong organizational skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the Worship Arts Director and pastoral staff.
Clearances: Must complete all required Pennsylvania child abuse and criminal background clearances.

Pay Structure: $20-28/hr depending on experience level
Professional Development: $1000 / year reimbursable for conferences, workshops, or technical training
