What is the 10-20 rule for lifeguards?

The 10-20 rule for lifeguards states that they should scan their assigned area every 10 seconds and identify potential hazards or distressed swimmers within 20 seconds. This quick and focused scanning helps ensure prompt response to emergencies and maintains safety in the aquatic environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Lifeguard, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Lifeguard, you need strong swimming ability, knowledge of water safety, and current lifeguard certification such as Red Cross or YMCA. Familiarity with rescue equipment, first aid, and CPR/AED protocols is typically required. Excellent observation skills, quick decision-making, and effective communication are vital soft skills for responding to emergencies and interacting with patrons. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure a safe aquatic environment and provide prompt, effective responses to incidents.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Part-time lifeguards typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily pay is usually associated with specialized roles like high-level consultants, surgeons, or certain freelance professionals. Some high-income jobs require advanced skills, certifications, or working in high-stakes environments, but most part-time lifeguard positions offer hourly wages significantly below that level.

Is lifeguarding a good side hustle?

Lifeguarding is a common part-time job that can serve as a flexible side hustle, especially for those with certifications in CPR and first aid. It offers opportunities to work evenings, weekends, and during the summer, making it suitable for students or individuals seeking additional income. However, it requires strong swimming skills, attentiveness, and the ability to handle emergency situations.

What are part time lifeguards?

Part time lifeguards are trained professionals who work on a part-time basis to supervise swimming areas, such as pools, beaches, or water parks, ensuring the safety of swimmers and patrons. Their main responsibilities include monitoring the water, preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and administering first aid or CPR when necessary. Part time lifeguards often work flexible hours, covering shifts during busy times, weekends, or holidays, and must maintain up-to-date certifications in lifeguarding and lifesaving skills.

Is 22 too old to be a lifeguard?

Part time lifeguards can be of various ages, and 22 is generally not too old to work in this role. Many lifeguards are in their early twenties and beyond, provided they have the necessary certifications such as CPR and lifeguard training, and meet the physical requirements. Age is rarely a barrier as long as the individual can perform the duties safely and effectively.

The main difference lies in their responsibilities: lifeguards monitor safety, whereas swim instructors focus on teaching swimming skills.

What are some common challenges part-time lifeguards face, and how can they prepare for them?

Part-time lifeguards often face challenges such as maintaining constant vigilance during long shifts, quickly adapting to changing pool or beach conditions, and balancing their responsibilities with another job or school. Staying alert and refreshed, even during quieter periods, is crucial for ensuring swimmer safety. To prepare for these challenges, lifeguards should keep their training up-to-date, practice effective communication with team members, and develop good time-management skills to handle a flexible schedule.

Job description

Job Title: Swim Instructor
Reports to: Deck Supervisor
FLSA Status: Part time, Non-Exempt
Summary: Were looking for a patient, energetic, and student-centered Swim Instructor to bring our curriculum to life in the water. This role is where the magic happens - youll teach kids foundational water safety and swim skills, build genuine connections with students and their families, and take real ownership of each childs progress. If you love working with kids, communicate naturally with parents, and find energy in watching someone conquer something hard, this role is built for you.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Deliver swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum with consistency, energy, and a focus on student growth.
  • Enforce safety rules and regulations on the pool deck daily to prevent accidents and maintain a secure environment.
  • Accurately evaluate student progress and complete skill evaluations on time.
  • Connect with parents and guardians after lessons to share student updates, celebrate wins, and address concerns with care.
  • Use creative problem-solving to help students work through challenges and keep progressing.
  • Maintain and properly store all pool equipment, including placing and removing lane lines.
  • Assist with light cleaning duties such as deck mopping, window washing, and trash removal as needed.
What Were Looking For:
  • Reliable, upbeat, and ready to show up with energy every shift.
  • Eagerness to obtain a Lifeguard certification and a desire to grow.
  • Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports coach, camp counselor, or childcare provider, or similar.
  • Comfortable and confident in the water - swimming experience strongly preferred.
  • A natural communicator who connects easily with kids and puts parents at ease.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to track multiple students progress accurately.
  • Must be available for evening and weekend shifts.
  • While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat, humidity, and chlorine. Noise level is usually moderate.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Every student is progressing and no child is slipping through the cracks.
  • Families feel informed, appreciated, and excited about their childs development.
  • Lessons are delivered with consistency and enthusiasm, exactly as the curriculum intends.
  • The pool deck is safe, clean, and ready before the first student arrives.
Our Culture: At Goldfish Swim School, we believe every child deserves to be safe in and around water. Our team is passionate, people-first, and committed to a golden experience every day. As a Swim Instructor, youre the person who makes that real - one lesson, one level-up, one confident kid at a time.
