The City of Troy is a thriving community that is diverse, dynamic, and committed to providing a high quality of life. The Communications Department increases community awareness and involvement in programs, services, and community events. Staff shares information with public officials, residents, visitors, the business community, and City employees, utilizing all means of communication. This position reports to the Communications Director.
This Marketing Associate position is a key member of the City of Troy's Communications Department and primarily works with Troy Public Library staff to promote its mission, programs, and operations.
DUTIES
• Work closely with all Communications staff to support the overall mission of the City of Troy through consistent, clear, and creative communication best practices.
• Primarily provide support for Library marketing events and programs.
• Assist the Library Marketing Coordinator with various marketing activities for the Troy Public Library.
• Create marketing materials, including social media, digital, and print.
• Compose and update content on the Library's website and social media.
• Assist as needed with City-wide communication initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree or 60 credit hours in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Two (2) years of recent full-time (or four (4) years of recent part-time) Marketing, Communications, or public relations work experience.
• Candidates with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
• Strong knowledge of social media backend platform usage and social media/marketing trends.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other Creative Cloud products.
• Basic understanding of social media and graphic design best practices.
• Ability to effectively communicate and present ideas and concepts both verbally and in writing, and make presentations to internal and external groups.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Must have a valid Michigan license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy driving standards).
• As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
PREFERENCES
• Experience managing social media applications for an organization.
• Knowledge of non-profit or government marketing and communications methods.
HOURS
Part-time, year-round. 25 hours per week, preferably Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm; scheduled days/times are flexible within range.
