Job description

ABOUT OUR JOB City of Vacaville - A beautiful place to live, a great place to work. The City is currently recruiting Part-Time* Laborers in the Public Works Department. Immediate vacancies are in the Parks and Streets Divisions of Public Works.

Laborers perform a variety of maintenance tasks and may be assigned to work in the following operational areas: Parks, Streets, Facilities, Field Utilities, Garage Maintenance, or Central Warehouse. While current vacancies exist in the Parks and Streets Divisions, this recruitment will establish an eligibility list to fill future Laborer vacancies throughout all divisions within Public Works. All positions require candidates to be able to work as part of a team, as well as independently, on assigned tasks and to be flexible in performing multiple tasks throughout the day.

Sample job duties include, but are not limited to: Cleaning City buildings and parks Operating weed-eaters, lawnmowers, and other power tools Manual tasks such as loading and unloading materials and equipment, digging and covering holes and trenches Cleaning and servicing equipment Maintaining and repairing sewer and water lines, streets, and storm drains Assisting other City staff in maintenance operations Performing warehouse and courier duties by making daily deliveries to City facilities Salary Information: $20.57-$25.00/hour For a detailed job description, please visit our website at www.cityofvacaville.gov. *Laborer is a Part-Time position and is paid an hourly rate. Part-Time positions can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month

Part-Time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits, and do not accrue leave time with the exception of State-mandated sick leave (40 hours per year). Promotional opportunities for Full-Time positions will take place as a separate recruitment. ABOUT YOU Education, Experience and License/Certification Requirements Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is: Education: High school diploma or GED is highly desirable. Experience: Experience in landscape or construction maintenance is highly desirable. License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

Other: Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire in order to drive a vehicle for City business and operate power tools.
