Job description

Job Opportunity: Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist

Our organization is currently seeking a full-time Clinical and Metabolic Geneticist who is Board Certified or Board Eligible. This role includes a faculty position at our School of Medicine, with the appointment level reflecting your training and experience.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both newly trained and seasoned clinicians/educators in metabolic genetics, as well as those with a broader interest in various aspects of clinical genetics and genomics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct newborn screenings and provide patient care.
  • Offer inpatient consultations and manage outpatient genetic clinics.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Educate medical students, pediatric and neurology residents, and genetic counseling students.
  • Engage in research activities, with dedicated time allocated for research pursuits.

The clinical genetics practice here is diverse and extensive, covering areas such as neurogenetics, cardiogenetics, cancer genetics, dysmorphology, congenital anomalies, and other specialized genetics fields. Our team consists of two full-time and two part-time geneticists, along with two per diem geneticists, four pediatric genetic counselors, and a genetic counseling assistant. Additionally, a new multispecialty pediatric outpatient facility is set to open next year.

Laboratory and Educational Advancements

We are in the process of establishing a cutting-edge clinical genetic and genomic testing laboratory to deliver comprehensive diagnostic services throughout our health system, benefiting the Inland Empire. This lab will be staffed by a PhD laboratory geneticist and a laboratory-based genetic counselor.

Our School of Medicine is also launching a newly accredited graduate program (MS) in genetic counseling, with its inaugural class starting in the fall of 2025.

About Our Medical Center

Strategically situated in Southern California, our Medical Center and Children's Hospital boasts the largest Level IV NICU in the state, serving the two largest counties in the nation and approximately 25% of California's population. The Children's Hospital is among the few facilities in California offering pediatric cardiac transplants and ECMO services. We are also developing a Perinatal Care Center focused on prenatal diagnosis to better support high-risk pregnancies and infants with congenital anomalies diagnosed before birth. Our Medical Center and Children's Hospital provide specialized team centers for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, hemoglobinopathies, spina bifida, metabolic genetics, and craniofacial anomalies.
