DATA ENTRY & LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (Part-Time, Entry Level)

Position Type: Part-Time, Permanent

Hours: Approx 25-30 hrs / week

This is a permanent position and is not intended as a temporary job, summer position, or internship. Because this position requires extensive on-the-job training, we are seeking someone who is genuinely interested in learning the role and building long-term experience with our company.

Apex Oil Lab is a locally owned oil analysis laboratory offering testing for new and used lubricants for maintenance and reliability purposes. We assist companies in industries such as Automotive, Manufacturing, Transportation, Oil & Gas, Construction, and Power Generation. JOB DESCRIPTION
The Data Entry & Laboratory Technician position entails laboratory, data entry, and administrative work. This is an entry-level production position within a specialized laboratory environment. The work combines hands-on sample processing, computer/data entry, laboratory equipment, customer service, and administrative tasks.

Facility hours are Mon - Fri, 9-5. This a permanent position, offering part-time shifts (25-30 hrs/week). Shifts are typically 5-6 hrs. Our team members must be flexible to accommodate staffing needs.

All work is performed onsite. Applicants are strongly recommended to live within short commute of our location in Kentwood (49512).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Job responsibilities entail both clerical and laboratory work
  • Follow operating procedures precisely and consistently as outlined by management
  • Receive and open fluid sample shipments, prepare bottles, and enter information from paperwork to computer system
  • Handle inbound and outbound phone calls and emails
  • Provide excellent customer support
  • Database work will include entering data, updating records, etc
  • Operate, clean, and maintain fluid testing instruments in the laboratory
  • Efficiently and accurately process test samples to meet daily deadlines
  • Follow all protocols to maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
  • Assist in maintaining inventory and prepare outgoing shipments
  • Additional duties as requested by management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy is crucial
  • Excellent customer support skills
  • Strong data-entry and 10-key skills preferred
  • Strong typing skills (speed with high accuracy)
  • Prior lab or production experience preferred
  • Follow verbal and written instructions, SOPs, procedures
  • Energetic and enjoys working within a collaborative team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to petroleum products, fumes, odors, mists and dusts
  • Wear PPE as required
  • Basic math skills
  • Move or lift up to 50 lbs
  • Visual acuity with ability to distinguish colors
  • Able to work standing for extended periods of time; bending, stretching, kneeling, and lifting
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines
