ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES A PART-TIME OPENING IN THE STEM DIVISION

POSITION: Laboratory Assistant (Part-Time)

Description of Duties:

Support the laboratory exercises associated with Biology. Prepare and set up laboratory sessions as needed for student and faculty use. Maintain, prepare and replenish supplies and equipment needed for laboratory sessions. Maintain laboratory computers and experiment interface instruments. Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies. Assist faculty and students with equipment utilization, setup and/or replacement during laboratory sessions. Collaborate with faculty and staff regarding lab needs. Maintain inventory of supplies/equipment and order laboratory supplies, as needed. Clean and properly dispose of waste to include proper disposal of hazardous waste. Adhere to applicable health and safety regulations. When laboratories are open, supervise student use of these facilities. Participate in the development of safety procedures and training for faculty and students that use equipment located in laboratories. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Laboratory Support Supervisor, Program Coordinators and Division Dean. Regular attendance is an essential function for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Twenty-Four (24) credit hours of college, including at least one (1) successfully completed lab class in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) related area. One (1) year experience in a laboratory or related area. Experience with computers. Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. and moderate to heavy carrying up to 50 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping.    

Desired Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a STEM related area. Experience working in an institution of higher education, preferably in a laboratory environment. Familiarity with using computers/software related to science. Ability to set up and use scientific instrumentation and equipment.

Pay Rate: $14.00 per hour

An unofficial degree conferring transcripts must be received by this office for formal consideration; however, should an offer of employment be extended, official transcripts are required.
