Job description

SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our team. This part time role will work 40 hours within a two week pay period. This role will work on a mid/day schedule, including every other weekend.  Will primarily work a mid-shift with a 10 AM or 12 PM start time, with some flex to 7 AM start time if needed for weekend coverage.

Purpose of this position: Under general supervision, performs work that involves collecting and/or processing laboratory specimens, entering data into the electronic health record (EHR) and/or the laboratory information system (LIS). Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specimen Processing

  • Accurately receive, prepare, and distribute clinical specimens
  • Perform client urine collections and complete required documentation
  • Utilize the electronic health record (EHR), laboratory information system (LIS), client software (Web Portal), Microsoft Office Suite software, and any other additional department specific software or middleware to efficiently complete daily tasks
  • Manage high-volume inquiries from clinicians and patients via phone and EHR in-baskets professionally, responding to external and internal customers' needs/issues without transferring to another section of the laboratory
  • Maintain normal operation and perform routine maintenance of equipment. Following established guidelines complete troubleshooting tasks or escalate for service as required to appropriate resource
  • Perform administrative support work and section-specific support activities which they have received applicable training and approval to perform
  • Assist with inventory management and supply restocking
  • Assist with training of new staff and students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED 

-OR-

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified or certified-eligible with a nationally accredited phlebotomy association 

-OR-

  • Completion of ten quarter credits of biology or chemistry college courses 

-OR-

  • Six Months of experience in a clinical laboratory setting

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Customer Service skills
