Veterinary Assistant Instructor – Substitute (As-Needed / PRN)

Location: Denver, CO | Campus: On-Site

Type: Part-Time / Substitute (As-Needed)

Schedule: On-Call / Variable Evening Shifts (Monday – Friday)

Compensation: $23.73 – $29.66 per hour

Position Summary

Are you a CVT, RVT, or DVM looking for a flexible way to pick up extra hours while giving back to the profession? Pima Medical Institute is seeking a Substitute Veterinary Assistant Instructor to cover evening classroom lectures and hands-on lab sessions at our Denver campus on an as-needed basis.

This role is ideal for veterinary professionals who want to share their clinical expertise, mentor future veterinary assistants, and maintain total flexibility without committing to a fixed, weekly schedule. When called in to substitute, you will step seamlessly into pre-planned evening sessions using our established hybrid curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Coverage: Fill in for primary instructors during planned absences or unexpected leave to deliver scheduled evening lectures, digital course content, and clinical lab activities.

  • Hands-On Mentorship: Lead students through practical, hands-on clinical lab skills in our campus veterinary labs, enforcing all safety and sanitation protocols.

  • On-Site Facilitation: Assist students with navigating online learning materials and digital coursework during assigned campus shift blocks.

  • Student Advisory: Answer student questions, provide live feedback during lab procedures, and offer professional mentorship during coverage hours.

  • Documentation & Attendance: Accurately record evening student attendance and log student clinical performance during substitute coverage shifts.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensure: Current Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in good standing in Colorado.

  • Education & Training: Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program or recognized Veterinary Assistant program OR a minimum of four (4) years of verified job-related training and experience.

  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of occupational experience in a clinical veterinary setting.

  • Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and LMS familiarity).

  • Availability: Flexible availability to cover evening shifts on-site at the Denver campus as campus coverage needs arise.
