Registered Nurse (RN) - Inpatient Rehabilitation Physical Medicine

Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, 2900 W Oklahoma Ave; Milwaukee, WI 53215

Where You Will Work:

You will work in our Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (IRP), a CARFaccredited, strokecertified rehabilitation unit that functions as a specialized admission service within the hospital. This environment offers registered nurses the opportunity to care for medically complex patients while developing strong rehabilitationfocused nursing skills.

Approximately 50% of our patient population includes individuals recovering from strokes and brain injuries, along with patients with other neurological conditions such as spinal cord injuries, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. The unit also cares for patients following kidney and liver transplants, as well as patients who have received or are awaiting heart transplants, including those requiring LVAD support. Additional patient populations include individuals with amputations, select joint replacements, and patients receiving oncology, dialysis, or hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) services. This diverse census provides RNs with broad clinical exposure and ongoing learning opportunities.

The unit operates similarly to a medicalsurgical setting, allowing nurses to practice a wide range of core nursing skills; however, the unit does not utilize telemetry monitoring. Patients participate in a minimum of three hours of therapy daily (physical, occupational, and speech therapy as appropriate), and nursing plays a critical role in reinforcing therapy goals and promoting functional independence.

This role is ideal for RNs who value patient education, rehabilitation nursing, teamwork, and longterm patient impact, while continuing to build strong clinical assessment and criticalthinking skills.

We're Looking For:

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • A commitment to teamwork, communication, and continual professional growth

What You'll Do:

  • As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
