POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Material Planner
REPORTS TO: Planning and Execution Manager
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
PAY RANGE: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 Annually DOE
FT / PT STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION:
SUMMARY
Responsible for developing job material lists for procurement and production use. Resolve technical specification conflicts with material requirements and develop material breakdown structures for end use of purchased material. Assist in qualified vendor identification and resolving specific vendor questions for material scopes of work. Ensure material identified for project/production use is technically accurate before triggering its purchase. Utilize statements of work, technical drawings, technical manuals and publications, blueprints, and specifications to develop job material lists for shop and shipboard production work. Maintain historical documentation to ensure the basis of is understood and available to support material cost estimates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify and develop job material list for procurement and in support of production shop and shipboard work.
  • Determine material sizes and quantities required for approved scopes of work.
  • Resolve technical specification conflicts or provide technically approved substitutes.
  • Ensure material identified for project/production use is technically accurate before procurement.
  • Assist Purchasing Department in identifying qualified vendors.
  • Assist Purchasing Department in resolving specific vendor questions for material scope of work.
  • Develop detailed material cost estimates, including basis of the cost estimate, exceptions, and assumptions for task orders.
  • Utilize statements of work, drawings, technical manuals and publications, blueprints, and specifications to develop job material lists for shop and shipboard production work.
  • Coordinate with production teams to develop material repair/replacement plans.
  • Coordinate with project team members to determine material need dates and submit technical clarifications.
  • Obtain the IMIA Structural Inspector Certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • No Supervisory responsibilities for this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES
  • Computer experience includes proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Programs.
  • Proficient communication skills, oral and written, and well organized.
  • Ability to effectively work with a variety of other people, especially other company personnel.
  • Knowledge of work items and material procurement.
  • Working knowledge of functional areas of production, such as trades, material requisitioning, purchasing, scheduling, quality assurance, receiving, and warehousing.
  • Familiarity with Government publications and standards for specifications and manuals.
  • Working knowledge of Naval Ship repair and installation practices, such as welding and fitting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum four (4) or more years working in a shipyard production environment, preferably in US Navy repair or new construction shipyards.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Office work using hardware and software functions.
  • Shop and shipboard visits to assess material conditions.
  • Bending, crawling, climbing, and walking on U.S. Navy ships in spaces and tanks and in company facilities.
  • Hot and cold temperatures during the work shift, dependent on time of the year and location of work.
