TITLE: Superintendent

REPORTS TO: Production Manager

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

PAY RANGE: $125,000.00-$145,000.00 Annually DOE

FT / PT STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Varies

SUMMARY

The Superintendent is the front line production leader responsible for the execution of assigned tasks, on assigned projects, on U.S. Navy Ships and Submarines. IMIA performs Abrasive Blasting Operations using High Pressure Compressed Air, Ultra-High Pressure Water Jetting for Surface Preparation, and a large variety of hand-held equipment to remove existing coatings. During application of coatings, IMIA uses Plural and Single Component Spray Pumps and a variety of hand-held tools to apply Coatings.

The Superintendant manages the execution of work assigned and ensure the teams performing Blasting, Coating Applications, Cleaning, Equipment Set Up, and Waste Removal are performed to requirements of Safety, Quality, appropriate Budgets, and Schedule. The Superintendent works closely with Project Management Professionals to ensure the production teams are executing tasks in accordance with project schedules. The superintendent is the direct supervisor and provides hands-on leadership and supervision to the Foremen. Superintendents manage the operation of equipment in use and ensures the workforce operates equipment in accordance with equipment Standard Operating Procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete walk throughs of spaces each day prior to start of shift, ensuring work is ready to be executed, clear the path as necessary, and ensures the Foremen receive the right crew-mix to execute their assigned tasks each day.
  • Provides Daily Plan of the Day for Foremen and the Teams and sets the Daily Project Goals.
  • Ensure Foremen survey spaces for hazard identification, mark ups, equipment readiness, perform tool box huddles and take coorective action to keep employees safe and achieve their daily goals.
  • Oversees and monitors projects to ensure work is completed and meets Safety, Quality, Schedule, and Budget requirements.
  • Works within the scope and budget assigned to the project and coordinates progression of the job with management and the customer.
  • Reviews job schedules and complexity of projects to determine work priorities and assign appropriate Trades staff to specific jobs/tasks, each day, and each week, always looking ahead and preparing the plan to execute.
  • Maintains control of personnel/project staffing for all tasks as assigned, including ensuring staffing and turnover for 2nd or 3rd shift are completed each day. Shares manning resources with other projects when possible.
  • Submits crewmembers’ timesheets into payroll by deadline.
  • Interacts effective daily communications with sub-contractors, shipyard personnel.
  • Ensures safety policies are adhered to and compliance requirements are met.
  • Provides project managers and support staff with project updates and other relevant information.
  • Implements inspection checklists, receives and ensures safety walk through discrepancies are corrected.
  • Participate in Job Planning activities for upcoming projects, including identifying equipment needs, Foremen needs, and manning needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Oversees Foremen and production staff, the number of which varies according to the project, but may exceed 25 people.

  • Knowledge of marine industry within a production environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the marine coatings industry preferred
  • Prior management/supervisory experience strongly preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly exposed to dusty conditions, extreme temperatures, high noise level, outdoor weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces
  • Often works on scaffolds and ladders for long periods of time
  • Travel often required
  • Shift work and overtime involved most of the time
  • Risk of injury to self and/or others due to electric shock, falls and cuts
  • Stamina required; frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl
  • Required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip or handle; regularly required to lift and/or move heavy objects
  • Required to use vision for up close, distant and peripheral inspections
