Job description

Part-Time HR Manager โ€“ People Operations | Nassau County, NY | 3 Days/Week | On-Site

A privately held commercial real estate development, construction and management company with a portfolio predominately in Metro New York with a team of ~50 people operating under multiple entity structures seeks Part Time HR Manager.

The Role We're looking for a capable, people-first HR Manager to join us on a part-time basis (3 days/week, on-site in Nassau County). Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll own day-to-day HR operations, serve as the liaison to our outside payroll provider, and be the internal champion for manager development and employee engagement. This is a hands-on role โ€” you'll be the sole HR professional and a trusted resource for both leadership and staff.

What You'll Do

Payroll & Vendor Management

  • Serve as the primary internal contact for outside payroll company and outsourced international labor provider
  • Review and approve payroll inputs, ensure accuracy across multiple entities and EINs
  • Manage payroll calendar, coordinate with finance/CFO on reporting and reconciliation
  • Troubleshoot employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies

Manager Training & Development

  • Design and deliver practical manager training on topics including performance conversations, documentation, conflict resolution, and legal compliance
  • Build a simple, repeatable onboarding experience for new managers and team members
  • Coach frontline and mid-level managers on employee relations situations as they arise
  • Partner with leadership on goal-setting frameworks and annual review cycles
  • Support management team through compensation planning โ€” raises, bonuses, and pay-equity reviews
  • Guide managers on performance improvement plans and documentation
  • Coach frontline and mid-level managers on employee relations situations as they arise

Team Building, Engagement & Culture

  • Plan and execute team engagement initiatives โ€” recognition programs, staff events, internal communications
  • Help build a cohesive culture across a workforce in the NY Metro area across multiple offices - in person.
  • Gather employee feedback and surface themes to leadership
  • Our team works across multiple properties and offices, so building connection requires intentionality

General HR Operations (managed in coordination with our 3rd party payroll and benefits provider)

  • Maintain employee records, I-9s, personnel files across all entities
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes end-to-end
  • Administer PTO, leaves of absence, and attendance tracking
  • Partner with our third-party payroll and benefits provider to ensure compliance with New York State, New York City, and other applicable employment laws across the full employee lifecycle

Onboarding and recruiting

  • Support job postings and interview coordination for open roles as needed
  • Screen Candidates as needed

What We're Looking For

  • 5โ€“8 years of HR generalist or HR manager experience; real estate, construction, or multi-site/multi-entity background a strong plus
  • Hands-on experience managing or coordinating with an outside payroll vendor (ADP, Paychex, Gusto, or similar)
  • Proven ability to facilitate manager training and team-building programs โ€” not just design them
  • Experience running performance management cycles โ€” goal setting, reviews, promotion and compensation decisions
  • Strong knowledge of New York State employment law and multi-entity compliance
  • Comfortable as a department of one โ€” self-directed, organized, and practical
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent a plus but not required
  • Proficiency in HRIS and payroll platforms
  • Excellent communication and organization skills - fully proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Available as needed during off-days

compensation is based of part time employment
