Job description

Description
The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking part-time faculty to teach in the Biotechnology Master's degree program. The Master's of Professional Studies in Biotechnology prepares professionals for management and leadership roles in the biotechnology industry through advanced instruction in the life sciences, plus coursework in business, regulatory affairs, leadership, management, and other essential skills. We welcome applications to teach the following courses:
  • Project Management Fundamentals: This class teaches students the fundamentals of managing projects in a systematic way. These fundamentals can be applied within any industry and work environment and will serve as the foundation for more specialized project management study. Principles and techniques are further reinforced through practical case studies and team projects in which students simulate project management processes and techniques.
  • Special Topics: This course explores a new topic every year that is relevant to the biotechnology industry. Previous special topics include biotechnology in the age of a pandemic, fermentation, cell and gene therapy, and global regulatory affairs.

Each class in the program is typically taught one day per week in the evening. Preferred teaching modality is in-person at the UMBC location at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland but online or hybrid is fine in most cases.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes regular university benefits.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in a field related to biotechnology or significant industry experience relevant to the class topic. Teaching experience in the classroom and/or on-line is not required but preferred.
