Event Porter (Banquets) – Part-Time

Location: Black Walnut Inn
Department: Food & Beverage / Events
Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports To: Events Manager / Banquet Captain

Position Summary

The Part-Time Event Porter supports the successful execution of banquets, weddings, and private events at Black Walnut Inn by assisting with event setup, breakdown, and logistical support. This role is essential to ensuring event spaces are prepared on time, maintained throughout the event, and restored to standards following service.

Event Porters work behind the scenes and alongside banquet leadership to help create seamless, well-organized events that reflect the Inn’s commitment to exceptional hospitality and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Event Setup & Breakdown

  • Assist with setting up event spaces according to Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), including tables, chairs, linens, staging, and service stations.
  • Break down event spaces efficiently and safely following events.
  • Reset rooms and outdoor areas to standard layouts as directed.
  • Load, unload, and transport event equipment, furniture, and supplies.

Operational Support

  • Support banquet servers and captains with logistical needs during events.
  • Maintain clean, organized back-of-house and storage areas.
  • Replenish supplies, including linens, glassware, tables, chairs, and décor, as needed.
  • Assist with trash removal, recycling, and post-event cleaning tasks.

Event Maintenance

  • Monitor event spaces during service to address spills, trash, or setup adjustments.
  • Ensure pathways, exits, and service areas remain clear and safe throughout events.
  • Respond promptly to requests from banquet leadership.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all workplace safety, lifting, and equipment-handling procedures.
  • Assist with the proper storage and care of event equipment.
  • Report damaged equipment, safety concerns, or incidents to leadership immediately.

Qualifications

  • Previous event, banquet, or hospitality support experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong work ethic with a team-first mindset.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under time constraints.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
