Job description

CITY OF ELKHART – JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Parks amp; Recreation
POSITION: Event Aide
DIVISION: Events
STATUS : Part-time
CATEGORY: Hourly, $15
FLSA : Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO : Event Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY
Assists the City of Elkhart Parks amp; Recreation Department’s Events Coordinator and Events Assistant amp; Volunteer Coordinator with community engagement, planning, and implementing community events throughout the Parks system for all ages.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises, monitors, and assists event participants with enrichment activities ensuring all participants maximum success and enjoyment at community events.
Assists with special events and programs throughout the year.
Works events for the parks during nights and weekends.
Unloading equipment and setting up venues for events.
Dispensing useful information to event-goers.
Packing up and cleaning up event when completed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the care and well-being of event participants
Supports overall Parks goals and needs throughout the year.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor to support overall success of the event.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 17 years old with reliable transportation to and from work.
High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in recreation, marketing, community development or a related field is a plus.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good communication and time management skills
Conflict resolution and problem solving
Must be able to follow and maintain city policies, rules, and regulations
Ability to work in diverse work environments such as indoors/outdoors
Experience or interest in interacting with people with and without disabilities in a recreational setting preferred
Diligence and attention to detail

Valid State Driver’s License and reliable transportation to and from Parks Dept.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS
Maintains a cheerful and optimistic attitude

Ability to lift at least 40 pounds or more at times, at least 20 pounds often
Ability to twist, turn, run, be active, and play
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works with a diverse amount of cultures and people within the community
Works inside and outside to provide programming in all weather conditions and seasons
Noise levels can vary from quiet to high
May involve driving to different locations and working out of different facilities
POST OFFER TESTING REQUIREMENTS
The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore, successfully passing a post offer drug screen is required (random drug testing may be conducted after employment).
Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
