Part Time Dispatcher
The Xavier University Police Department is seeking applicants for a part-time police dispatcher position. This successful candidate will cover police dispatch shifts on a regular basis and when needed due to illness or vacation of regularly scheduled dispatchers. This position will answer all calls to the University emergency dispatch center, evaluate the nature and determine the urgency of the call, and dispatch the appropriate emergency first responders.
Primary Purpose:
Answer calls placed to the University emergency dispatch center (911 or 745-1000). Evaluate the nature and determine the urgency of the call. Dispatch the appropriate emergency first responders. Relay situational information to the responders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Answer, evaluate and prioritize requests for emergency and non-emergency action, including 911 calls, from the public and other law enforcement agencies via telephone, police radio and walk-ins.
  • Monitor campus wide alarm systems including fire, intrusion, hold-up and door access, dispatching emergency services or other responses as needed.
  • Update in real time police officers' continuous daily activity in computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Operate the Regional Crime Information Center terminal during investigations to obtain vehicle and criminal record information.
  • RCIC maintains a data communications network which links all Hamilton County law enforcement agencies with information systems maintained by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the FBI, and the remaining 49 states.
  • Issue emergency messages as directed, via voice broadcast or text systems. Act as liaison between Xavier Police and Cincinnati and Norwood Police and Fire agencies.
  • Prepare reports and other police department documents as assigned.
  • Function as primary contact when the University is closed for Physical Plant, Psychological Services, and Health & Wellness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-3 years of police or emergency services dispatching preferred
  • Required to attain and maintain certifications for access into local, state and national criminal history databases
  • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • No felony conviction
  • Must pass BCI/FBI background check
