Disciplines may include: Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Relay/Protection & Controls, and related engineering fields
Experience level: Typically 2+ years, depending on role
Credential: B.S. in Engineering from an EAC-ABET accredited program (required). EIT and/or PE may be required for some roles.

What you'll do (varies by role)
Engineers at Minnesota Power typically combine office and field work to support internal and external customers by:
  • Providing engineering expertise across the project lifecycle: planning, development, design, evaluation, implementation, modification, and documentation
  • Analyzing operational data and system events to maintain reliability and recommend equipment/process improvements
  • Serving as a technical consultant and advisor across departments
  • Leading or supporting projects and coordinating with internal teams, consultants, vendors, and contractors
  • For Engineer III/Senior levels: mentoring and training junior engineers

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Job classification is dependent upon the level of job related experience
  • A Master's degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience
  • Industrial or utility experience preferred

Engineer II: Four years or more related engineering experience -OR- Two years or more related engineering experience PLUS certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
Engineer III: Four years or more of related engineering experience PLUS Professional Engineer (PE) license -OR- 15 years or more related engineering experience
Engineer Senior: Eight years or more job related experience required PLUS Professional Engineer (PE) license
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Our positions report regularly in person, and with a possible hybrid work arrangement, within the ALLETE/ Minnesota Power service territory
  • Our positions may be eligible for either full time and part time
  • Possession and maintaining a valid driver's license may be required as some travel may be necessary
  • Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer license may be required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Engineer II positions: $82,000 - $102,000.
  • Engineer III positions: $94,000 - $117,000.
  • Engineer Senior positions: $106,000 - $133,000.

Compensation offered to selected candidates will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, these positions qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, including an Incentive Program, Retirement Benefits, Medical, Dental & Vision Plans, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability, Tuition Reimbursement, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences, and more.
