About the role, Your Impact
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Traffic Engineer Technical Leadin our offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, and Texas. This position will primarily consist of providing technical leadership, quality oversight, and strategic guidance for traffic engineering and transportation projects throughout our national service area. Responsibilities may include traffic impact studies, traffic operations analysis, safety evaluations, traffic signal design, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, transportation planning efforts, and corridor studies.
In addition to traditional traffic engineering services, this role will support our Transportation, Construction, and Design-Build groups across our service area, working with State, County, Municipal, and private-sector clients. This team-oriented position will involve collaboration with Baxter & Woodman's diverse disciplines and offices while serving as a technical resource and mentor to staff throughout the organization.
What your day-to-day will look like
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for traffic engineering and transportation planning projects.
  • Lead, Manage, and Review traffic impact studies, transportation analyses, traffic signal warrant studies and corridor evaluations.
  • Lead, Manage, and Review preparation of traffic signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and related transportation documents.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to engineering staff.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control reviews.
  • Lead or support proposal preparation, client or industry event presentations, and business development activities.
  • Assist with traffic related strategic growth initiatives within the transportation practice.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control standards to improve consistency, efficiency, and technical excellence across projects.
  • Stay current on industry standards, FHWA guidance, MUTCD requirements, and evolving traffic engineering best practices.

Education/Certification Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Must-haves, what you will bring
  • 15+ years of progressive traffic engineering and transportation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic operations, traffic safety, traffic signal systems, and transportation planning principles.
  • Experience managing and reviewing traffic impact studies, traffic signals improvements and general traffic engineering projects.
  • Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman's Illinois service areas (own transportation) and attend client and in office meetings as required.
  • Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Work within a Team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred

Compensation The pay range for this role is $130,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
