How much do part time data science civil engineering jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 1, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time data science civil engineering in the United States is $147,461.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $84,000.00 and $196,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you work part-time as a data scientist?

Part-time data science roles are available in various industries, including civil engineering, where professionals analyze data to support infrastructure projects. These positions often require proficiency in programming languages like Python or R, and may involve flexible schedules or project-based work. Availability depends on employer needs and the specific job requirements.

What types of projects can a part-time data science professional expect to work on within a civil engineering firm?

As a part-time data science professional in a civil engineering setting, you may work on projects like analyzing infrastructure sensor data, optimizing construction schedules, or developing predictive maintenance models for bridges and roads. Collaboration is common with civil engineers, GIS specialists, and project managers to ensure that data-driven insights improve design, safety, and resource allocation. The projects often involve extracting and cleaning large datasets, building statistical models, and presenting actionable findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders. This role provides exposure to real-world engineering challenges while allowing flexibility in work hours.

Can a civil engineer become a data scientist?

A civil engineer can become a data scientist by acquiring skills in programming, statistics, and machine learning, often through online courses or advanced degrees. Their background in engineering and problem-solving can be advantageous in data analysis roles, especially when working with infrastructure or construction data.

Is 40 too late for data science?

Age is not a barrier to entering data science or civil engineering roles, including part-time positions. Success depends on skills, experience, and continuous learning, such as mastering programming languages like Python or R and understanding relevant tools. Many professionals transition into these fields later in life and find opportunities through certifications and practical projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Data Science Civil Engineering professional, and why are they important?

To excel in a part-time data science civil engineering role, you need a solid background in civil engineering principles, data analysis, and statistical modeling, typically supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with technical tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, and engineering software like AutoCAD or Civil 3D, as well as experience with data visualization platforms, is highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and time management are crucial soft skills for success in this interdisciplinary and often client-facing field. These combined skills enable professionals to derive data-driven insights that improve engineering solutions and project outcomes while efficiently balancing workload demands.

What are part time data science civil engineering jobs?

Part time data science civil engineering jobs involve using data analysis, statistics, and programming to solve problems in civil engineering, such as infrastructure design, construction management, or environmental monitoring, but on a reduced or flexible schedule. Professionals in these roles might analyze large datasets related to transportation, water resources, structural health, or urban planning, helping to inform decision-making and improve project outcomes. Part time positions can be ideal for students, those seeking work-life balance, or professionals pursuing multiple interests.

Can you make $500,000 as a civil engineer?

Civil engineers typically earn salaries well below $500,000 annually, with top earners in specialized roles or management positions reaching higher six-figure incomes. Achieving a $500,000 salary usually requires advanced experience, certifications, or leadership in large projects, and is uncommon for most civil engineering roles.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Part-time Data Engineer on the enterprise Data and Analytics team, you are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the critical infrastructure for storing, processing, and analyzing data. You'll create pipelines that enable efficient and reliable integration, transformation, and delivery of data throughout the enterprise. Working alongside the Director of Data Architecture & Engineering, as well as collaborating with analysts, data scientists, and other business stakeholders, you help make sure data is accessible, trustworthy, and optimized for informed decision-making.

Specifically, you will:

  • Design and develop scalable data pipelines that retrieve information from multiple sources, convert it to the required format, and store it in suitable data repositories optimized for performance, scalability, and efficiency

  • Develop and optimize data transformations that prepare data for analytics, AI, and machinelearning use cases, including feature engineering and workflow automation.

  • Optimize data systems by tuning performance, resolving bottlenecks, and applying caching and indexing to improve queries

  • Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and completeness by implementing validation, monitoring, and automated data quality checks within pipelines.

  • Partner with analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver data products that support strategic and operational decisionmaking.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Architecture & Engineering to implement and evolve data modeling, architectural, and governance standards.

  • Improve the quality, security, and usability of analytical models by partnering with data scientists and analysts on upstream data design.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data documentation, metadata, and data dictionaries.
