Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate degree-granting institution of higher education and an applied technology leader for high-tech, hands-on training.
 
With nearly a 100-year history of academic excellence, MCC is a public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. With robust student success support, free tutoring, 20 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full-time equated student enrollment of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.
 
Most recently, Muskegon Community College outranked all other colleges in Michigan for the rate of students who received federal financial aid and then transferred to continue their education at a four-year institution. The college’s transfer-out rate was the highest in Michigan, 7 percentage points above the state average, and outpaced the average transfer rate across the nation. 
 
The College has an annual operating budget (general fund) of $51 million and employs about 210 regular full and part-time staff and many adjunct faculty and student assistants. The College also offers 52 Associate degree programs and 24 certificate programs.  
 
The main campus is located on a 111-acre campus in Muskegon which includes the Hendrik Meijer Library & Information Technology Center, Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, Frauenthal Foundation Fine Arts Center (including the Overbrook Theater and Art Gallery), Stevenson Center, the Science Center, the Health and Wellness Center, Art & Music Building, and MCC Golf Course.  
 
Muskegon Community College also operates the Sturrus Technology Center and Fab Lab in downtown Muskegon and extension centers in Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.

General Description:
The Respiratory Therapy Faculty member is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and academic leadership within the Respiratory Therapy program. This role supports student learning, recruitment, retention, and success through innovative teaching, curriculum development, assessment of learning outcomes, and clinical education. Respiratory Therapy Faculty teach across didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings, and contribute to program excellence, accreditation compliance, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
 
  1. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with a current Michigan license in Respiratory Care (or eligibility and ability to obtain within 4 months).  Bachelor's degree in a related field with a Master's degree preferred (e.g., Allied Health, Health Sciences, Education, Business, or a closely related discipline).
  2. Minimum of four (4) years of recent clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  3. Two years’ relevant teaching experience, preferably in post-secondary teaching. 
  4. Experience with instructional technology, learning management systems, simulation-based education, and/or online or hybrid course delivery.
  5. Knowledge of accreditation standards relevant to Respiratory Therapy education.
  6. Demonstrated excellence in communication and presentation skills, both oral and written, which transcend diverse audiences. 
  7. Ability to teach both basic and advanced coursework in Respiratory Care, including didactic, lab, simulation, and clinical instruction.   
  8. A passion for continuous learning and a dedication to support student success through the mission of the College. Contribute to a collaborative work environment through collegial communication and shared governance.
  9. The ability to facilitate varied teaching methods within didactic, lab, simulation, and clinical; and deliver instruction using evidence-based, student-centered teaching strategies that support diverse learning styles. Evaluate and document student performance using fair, timely, and meaningful assessment methods.
  10. Participate in development or assist in curriculum evaluation and revision to include content expertise, instruction delivery and design, and course management.
  11. Willingness and ability to teach during day or evening as well as online courses; as well as on main campus and extension centers/sites. 
  12. Highly motivated and solution-oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the College.
  13. Ability to commute to all clinical sites. All sites are in Michigan currently. 
 
 
 
Essential Function:
 
  1. Provide leadership for the clinical and lab components of the program including clinical lab instruction. 
  2. Organize, administer, plan, develop, and continuously improve the effectiveness of clinical experiences for students in the program. 
  3. Maintain and develop clinical site relationships as appropriate for direct care and observational learning experiences that meet the objectives of the program.
  4. Collaborate with clinical facilities to develop a clinical faculty and student orientation specific to the clinical experience. Verify student health forms for compliance with CDC and clinical facility guidelines.
  5. Conduct site visits to clinical locations appropriate to the objectives of the courses.
  6. Participate in and support the Program Director in developing curriculum, seeking and maintaining CoARC accreditation, and hiring of adjunct faculty – especially adjunct preceptors.
  7. Teach assigned course load which may include day, night, and online courses, as well as main campus, extension centers or clinical locations. Classes are to meet on time for the full allotted time. 
  8. Provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled and posted times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment.
  9. Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline.
  10. Prepare, submit and maintain reports related to student learning and accreditation needs.
  11. Develop or assist in development of curriculum including review or revision to keep programs on the cutting edge.
  12. Meet curriculum outcomes; Grade assignments in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, return graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assign final grades for all students, meeting or exceeding all institutional deadlines for completion.  
  13. Develop student rapport/professional relationships to assist with student success. 
  14. Drop students for non-attendance by the deadlines.
  15. Ensure student opinion surveys are conducted for each class and then reviewed after summary information is available to assist with increasing student success and your continued growth as an instructor.
  16. Contribute to Department or College by working collegially with Academic Affairs or other teams to support or review processes including but not limited to councils, committees, and teams; and provide mentoring to colleagues, peer evaluations and development, support student organizations, and represent the college in the community.
  17. Participates in the college community, as well as professional and community organizations, including the American Association of Respiratory Care.
  18. Maintains professional knowledge and expertise; participates in professional development.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.
