Job description

Construction Supervisor

The Construction Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of new home construction projects for Habitat for Humanity. This position ensures that all work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with Habitat's quality standards. The ideal candidate is a competent carpenter with strong leadership and communication skills who can effectively oversee subcontractors, guide volunteers, and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive work environment.

About Habitat for Humanity Capital District

Habitat for Humanity Capital District was founded in 1988 as an independent affiliate of Habitat International. Our service area includes Albany, Rensselaer and Southern Saratoga counties, where we have built over 170 homes in partnership with local families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all on-site activities for new single-family home construction projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors to ensure work meets plans, specifications, and code requirements.
  • Perform skilled carpentry and hands-on construction tasks as needed to maintain progress and quality.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage daily work activities to align with project timelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site, ensuring compliance with OSHA and Habitat safety standards.
  • Train, supervise, and engage volunteers and Habitat homebuyers on the job site, providing instruction and encouragement regardless of skill level.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, inspectors, and vendors to support smooth operations.
  • Track material usage, report progress, and support budget management.
  • Uphold Habitat's mission and values in all interactions with staff, volunteers, homeowners, and the community.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in residential new construction, framing, and finish carpentry.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades on site.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach and motivate volunteers with varying levels of experience.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform hands-on construction tasks, lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, operate power tools, and perform tasks requiring standing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods.

Schedule

The ideal candidate will be able to begin on a part-time basis of up to 20 hours per week, with opportunity for full-time employment in the future.

Compensation and Benefits

Habitat for Humanity offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience.

Part-time benefits include:

  • Paid sick leave (one hours for every 30 hours worked)
  • Paid family leave (100% of average weekly wage for up to 12 weeks)

Full-time benefits includes:

  • Paid time off including vacation (starting at 10 days/year), sick (starting at 12 days/year), personal (5 days/year) and 10 paid holidays/year.
  • Paid family leave (100% of salary for up to 12 weeks)
  • Simple IRA retirement savings with 3% Employer match
  • Medical Insurance (85% of premium covered for employees; 75% of premium covered for dependents)
  • Dental Insurance (100% of premium covered for both employees and dependents)
