Role Description
The Field Service Technician performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment in both shop and field settings. This role requires technical expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, as well as strong problem-solving skills, safe work practices, and the ability to support and mentor other technicians. The ideal candidate is mobile, adaptable, and comfortable working independently or in collaboration with multiple service teams across locations.
Essential Duties amp; Responsibilities
  • Follow all company safety policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Safely operate a company vehicle or service truck to travel between branches and job sites as scheduled.
  • Check in and out with assigned branch or service managers and complete tasks as assigned for the day.
  • Inspect new, used, and failed machinery to identify problems using customer concerns, operation checks, and diagnostic techniques.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs using safe practices, including disassembly, reassembly, and replacement of defective parts.
  • Document all work accurately in CDK, including labor, parts, forms, and detailed repair summaries with photos/videos.
  • Notify management of unforeseen issues outside the repair scope.
  • Test equipment post-repair to ensure issues are resolved.
  • Support technicians with technical guidance, Service Process, and CDK system training.
  • Maintain company tools, shop equipment, and clean, safe work areas.
  • Assist other branch functions, including Rental, Parts, Service Writer support, equipment delivery, and pick-up as assigned.
  • Attend training sessions to maintain and improve technical skills.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Educational amp; Experience Requirements
  • 5–10+ years of experience as a technician in heavy construction or diesel equipment.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (MD and PA) and ability to pass an annual DOT physical.
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • General knowledge and familiarity with computer and information systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with Bobcat or other heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Heavy Equipment, Diesel, or Forklift Technician certifications.
  • DOT Medical Card preferred.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and training to other technicians.
Essential Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
