Job description

Excelsior Universityย seeksย experienced, student-centered instructors to join our instructionalย pool of part-timeย communications faculty. Applicants should clearlyย indicateย their qualifications to teachย both public speaking and interpersonal communications courses.ย 

Reporting to the Department Chair for General Education and Social Sciences, part-time faculty are assigned to course sections based on their qualifications, interest, performance, andย course section availability.ย ย 

This is aย hybrid (St. Petersburg, FL) andย remote online part-time faculty position. Instructional faculty at Excelsior University teach online using pre-built course shells with common readings, activities, and assignments across all sections.ย Hybrid courses in St. Petersburg include some evening hours during the work week.ย 

Duties and Responsibilities:ย The following duties and responsibilities, but not limited to, are expected:

  • Implementing courses as designed by the University.ย ย 
  • Bringing their own knowledge andย expertiseย to bear on the subject matter.ย ย 
  • Engagingย regularlyย and substantively with students via email, announcements, and online discussion boards.ย ย 
  • Providingย timely, high-quality feedback on student work.ย ย 
  • Holding regular virtual office hours.ย ย 
  • Keeping the department chair apprisedย ofย anyย student or course issues.ย ย 
  • Followingย Universityย policies.ย ย 
  • Completing University-required training and attending required pre-term meetings.ย ย 

Qualifications:ย To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.ย 

  • A masterโ€™s degree or PhD in Communications or a masterโ€™s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in communications.ย ย 
  • Experience teachingย communications (including public speaking)ย in an asynchronous online environment.ย ย 
  • Experienceย with the Canvas learning management system preferred.ย ย 
  • A student-centered teachingย approach.ย ย 
  • A commitment to supporting the success of all students, including thoseย underservedย by traditional higher education.ย 

Compensation is provided at a rate ofย $1,000 per credit hour per course,ย with low-enrollment courses paid at a directed study rate. The salary range reflects the Universityโ€™s good faith estimate at the time of posting.
