NorthWest Arkansas Community College is seeking qualified applicants to establish a pool for part-time instructors in this discipline. Applications will be kept on file for the fiscal year ending June 30. When a position becomes available, the hiring department will review the applications on file. After each fiscal year end, the application will expire and a new application must be completed to remain in the applicant pool. Essential Duties:

Part-time faculty position reporting directly to the Director of the Bicycle Technician Program and the ED of Trails Trade School and Construction Technology. Pending need/enrollment, the instructor is responsible for teaching 3-11 load (credit) hours of Bicycle Mechanics courses per semester with the availability to teach mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekends as needed.

Instruction:

This instructor will teach courses such as:

  • BIKE 1003 Introduction to Bicycle Mechanics

  • BIKE 1013 Basic Bicycle Mechanics

  • BIKE 1023 Bicycle Braking Systems

  • BIKE 1033 Bicycle Drivetrain Systems

  • BIKE 1043 Ball Bearing Systems

  • BIKE 2013 Bicycle Wheel Repair and Assembly

  • BIKE 2023 Suspension Systems

  • BIKE 2033 Electric Bikes

  • BIKE 2043 Service Department Operation

The instructor will facilitate and evaluate student learning, prepare course syllabi and outlines, submit grades by established deadlines, and maintain student records in accordance with FERPA.

The instructor will attend meetings and functions of the college and department and complete other duties as assigned by the division dean or department chairs, including training.

Professional development may be encouraged or required in some circumstances.

Professional Development:

Examples include:

  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process.

  • Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences, and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.

  • Receive training or stay current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.

  • Participate in college professional development activities.

Rate of pay: $765 per credit hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience in bicycle mechanics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications in bicycle mechanics or related technical areas

  • Teaching experience at the college level or in a technical training setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated teaching ability is the top priority

  • Instructional experience and leadership experience at a community college is a plus.

  • Ability to use an online platform

  • Experience or interest in project-based, service learning, or inquiry-based learning will be given special consideration

  • Familiarity with bicycle mechanics, repair, and maintenance, including braking systems, drivetrains, wheel assembly, suspension, electric bikes, retails, and service department operations
