Job description

At Dollywood Parks & Resorts, we create memories worth repeating! We are seeking a Security Officer Level I who will embody the heart and soul of our mission of creating memories worth repeating while bringing families closer together while caring deeply about our brand.
We want to work alongside someone who acts as an extension of our mission, values, and culture. The ideal Security Officer Level I will be equal parts curious learner, innovator, administrator, detail driver, mentor, and motivator.
This role exists to protect people and property, by screening our Guests and Hosts for weapons or contraband at various Park entrances checkpoint locations. They will help to maintain a peaceful, fun-filled and safe atmosphere, and enforce Security procedures at Dollywood entrances while Creating Memories Worth Repeating for our guests.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to display and live out Lead with Love qualities, strongly rooted in the Dollywood Company culture, by being patient, kind, trusting, unselfish, truthful, forgiving, dedicated and accountable.
Summary of Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Greet all Guests in a friendly and professional manner
  • Control park access at Host, Guests and Service entrances
  • Search bags by visual and/or mechanical device
  • Must be able to work adjacent to and properly operate electronic Metal Detection Unit and hand-held wands
  • Must be able to scan Guests and deal professionally with any Guest that may need additional screening or has prohibited items in their possession
  • Must be able to provide professional Guest Services such as giving directions, answering questions, interacting with friendly conversation and representing the Company in a positive, family friendly manner
  • Be observant of any potentially suspicious activity and report same to an armed Security officer, Supervisor or Law Enforcement officer
  • Must be able to work at multiple positions and assignments as the Company needs changes with rapid increases or decreases in the attendance flow
  • Must be able to work in an outside environment, standing for an extended time, in all types of weather conditions
  • Take possession of lost property and return same to Lost & Found

Management reserves the right to change and/or add to these duties at any time
Education and Experience Required
  • Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior Law Enforcement or Security related experience
  • Must be able to meet the qualifications to be certified as an unarmed Security Officer by the State of Tennessee, licensed by the Department of Commerce & Insurance Private Protection Services as prescribed by the Tennessee Code Annotated 62-35 Act of 1922 (See attachments TCA 62-35-116, TCA 62-35-117)
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have state required auto insurance
  • First Aid and C.P.R. certification required or ability to obtain a certification in a timely manner
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen
  • Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor and other alcoholic beverages or controlled substances
  • Must not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States
  • Must have fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
  • Must pass a physical examination by a licensed physician if requested by the Company
  • Must have good moral character as determined by a thorough investigation conducted by the employing agency

  • Able to report to work without being under the influence of or smelling of alcohol or any other drug, legal or illegal
  • Able to pass a pre-hire drug screen and random or for cause drug screens as directed by the Company

Physical and Cognitive Requirements
  • Lifting and Carrying: Position may require occasional to frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs utilizing company's safety guidelines for safe lifting
  • Mobility: Position may require intermittent to prolonged sitting, standing and/or walking for duration of shift, up to 13 hours. Employees may also be required to travel to various areas on property which may include changes in terrain, stairs and uneven surfaces
  • Repetitive Movements: This position may require performing repetitive movements and tasks throughout the shift, including repeated use of hands, arms or other body parts as part of typical job functions
  • Environmental Conditions: This position requires the ability to perform work tasks in varying weather conditions to include extreme cold and heat. Employees may be required to work indoors and outdoors
  • Cognitive and Sensory Requirements: This position requires strong cognitive skills, including the ability to think critically, solve problems, process and retain information, have attention to detail and communicate effectively using approved methods
