Nursery Staff (Part-Time)
Alfred Street Baptist Church (ASBC) is a vibrant, faith-driven community committed to serving God and the people around us. ASBC is home to over 12,000 members and we have more than 80 ministries that are committed to our mission of Building Disciples to Win the World for Christ. We value collaboration, service, and excellence-and we're looking for team members who share that commitment. We are seeking dependable and nurturing Part-Time Nursery Staff to provide safe and Christ-centered care for children ages 18 months to 4 years old during weekend worship services. This role ensures that every child is welcomed into a clean, secure environment and that every family feels confident and supported as they participate in the life of the church. The ideal candidate demonstrates compassion, patience, and a commitment to creating a welcoming, faith-based experience for children and families. Primary schedule consists of Saturday and Sunday worship services with the possibility of additional shifts during designated ministry events.
This is a Part- Time, Onsite position located in Alexandria, Virginia. The incumbent is under the day-to-day supervision of the Nursery Lead.
Schedule Varies: Saturday 4:30pm- 8pm, Sunday, 6:30am -1pm
Additional support could be requested for special events and Bible Study (Tuesday evenings)
What You'll Do
Child Safety & Supervision
  • Maintain constant visual supervision of all children at all times, adhering to appropriate staff-to-child ratios
  • Follow proper check-in and check-out procedures for each child, ensuring only authorized individuals receive children at dismissal
  • Adhere to all emergency, evacuation, and health protocols
  • Follow all allergy management, diapering, and hygiene procedures, including proper handwashing protocols and use of gloves

Family Engagement & Spiritual Care
  • Greet families warmly and professionally at drop-off and pick-up
  • Communicate clearly and promptly about any needs, updates, or concerns regarding a child
  • Incorporate gentle prayers, songs, and simple faith-based language into interactions with children
  • Model Christlike patience, kindness, and compassion in all caregiving

Nursery Operations & Cleanliness
  • Prepare the nursery room prior to the start of services
  • Reset and sanitize the space, including toys, surfaces, and changing areas, at the conclusion of services
  • Track attendance, document incidents, and communicate supply needs
  • Maintain a welcoming, clean, and hazard-free environment

What We're Looking For
Required:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full weekend schedule (Saturday and Sunday mandatory)
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and sex offender registry screening
  • Must clear a child protective services (CPS) background check
  • Comfortable working in a faith-based environment and supporting the mission of ASBC
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with children, parents, and staff
  • Working knowledge of early childhood development and childcare safety standards
  • Strong decision-making skills with ability to manage unexpected situations calmly and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow nursery staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, and a heart for serving children and families in ministry

Preferred:
  • Previous experience in childcare, early childhood education, or a nursery/children's ministry setting
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate developmental milestones for children 18 months to 4 years
