Job description

) The part time Recreation Assistant supports in the coordination and implementation of the center's on-going schedule of meaningful recreational activities designed to meet the physical, mental, cultural, spiritual, emotional, and psychosocial interests of each resident in accordance with company policies and procedure as well as local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations. Part time hours will consist of 2 weekdays and weekends, schedule for this position currently is every weekend or every other weekend and at least one full day during the week.
What You'll Do
  • Maintains organized, clean, and safe work area, including activity rooms and common areas.
  • Manages time, projects, and records effectively. Attend and actively participate in meetings as requested.
  • Ensure all mandatory training is completed on time. Assists with new-hire orientation, training, in-services, and staff meetings as needed.
  • Participates in the department's Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI) program and assists in resolving any issues identified as part of the QAPI process.
  • Reports all instances of suspected abuse or neglect or other concerns to management.
  • Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms, which may signify a physical change in any resident's condition that could require nursing intervention; report the same to charge nurse immediately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for the successful operation of the healthcare center.
  • Assists all activity functions and services in the department.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates scheduled activities as directed by the Director of Recreation.
  • Assists in planning and implementation of special events and projects.
  • Communicates to residents and support staff the daily schedule of planned activities.
  • Assist in the completion of MDS assessments, activity assessments, reassessments, progress notes, care plans, and oral histories as directed by the Director of Recreation.
  • Accurately record resident attendance, participation in, and response to activities.
  • Assist with monthly Resident Council meetings as directed by the Director of Recreation.
  • Ensure residents are transported safely and appropriately to and from activities.
  • Arrange environment and setup space and equipment for activities; returns equipment to storage for safe keeping after use.
  • Provide input and feedback to the Director of Recreation regarding resident progress and program effectiveness.

  • Previous experience as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in-writing.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to accept and exhibit the responsibility to make sound management decisions.
