Job description

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee has openings for school bus drivers (Transit Operator I and Transit Operator II positions). Online applications are being accepted for temporary, part-time and full-time positions with school bus transit divisions. Enjoy a daily school bus route while having many hours of the day free. Bus route is a morning shift and an afternoon shift. Employees are under direct supervision of a trainer and/or transit supervisor. Drivers and operators are responsible for daily reports of passengers carried. Performance reviews are based on safe and satisfactory operation of the vehicle. All Transit employees perform related work as required.

Starting Pay:

  • Transit Operator I -$19.15/hr.
  • Transit Operator II- $20.44/hr.

Acceptable Experience and Training

Completion of high school or GED and some experience in driving a bus or equivalent vehicle; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. For Relief Drivers, a CDL license is required, and training is provided. For all School Bus Transit Operators, a CDL Class A, B, or C with Passenger endorsement and School endorsement is required. Pre-employment DOT physical, drug screening, background check and motor vehicle record check required.
