Job description

As a Bridge Design Lead, you'll apply advanced structural engineering principles and technical expertise to the planning, design, and analysis of bridge and transportation structures. You’ll lead the development of bridge design solutions, oversee multidisciplinary coordination, and ensure compliance with applicable design standards and regulatory requirements. In this role, you’ll take ownership of design deliverables, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical direction while driving quality, efficiency, and innovation across projects.

  • Lead the preparation and review of bridge design plans, structural calculations, and technical reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
  • Apply advanced engineering standards, codes, and best practices to deliver compliant, innovative, and cost-effective bridge design solutions.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to align design objectives, resolve technical challenges, and maintain project schedules.
  • Perform and oversee structural analyses, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs to support project planning and delivery.
  • Direct quality assurance and quality control efforts, including design reviews and responses to comments from stakeholders and field personnel.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering professional development and ensuring consistency in design approaches across the team.

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in structural/bridge design, including extensive work on TxDOT projects.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with ability to obtain licensure in additional states as needed.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation ORD, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and bridge design/analysis software such as LEAP, CSI, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated experience leading design teams and delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, with proposal development and client engagement experience considered a plus.
  • This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. May require occasional exposure to work environments that may include inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazard, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water, depending on project requirements.
  • While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. This job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
