Position Description
The Monell Chemical Senses Center, founded in 1968, is the world's first nonprofit scientific institute devoted exclusively to basic research on the chemical senses: taste, smell, and chemosensory irritation. Research at Monell contributes to a wide range of scientific and practical knowledge. With more than fifty Ph.D.-level scientists, the Center is making major progress toward understanding how the chemical senses function and their importance in everyday life. We are currently seeking several part-time animal care technicians who work one-on-one with animals, within Monell's Animal Facility. Technicians monitor and maintain the health of animals under their care and may perform duties such as receiving new animals, cleaning and changing cages and providing food and water. Some animal technicians have more complex duties that may include: updating and maintaining animal records, administering injections and medications, sterilizing equipment and preparing laboratory samples.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
โ€ข Daily care of small laboratory animals
โ€ข Operating cage washing equipment
โ€ข Maintaining and sanitizing the animal care facility
โ€ข Monitoring health of animals
โ€ข Receive, store and distribute supplies
โ€ข Report low inventory to supervisor

Minimum requirements for the position:
โ€ข High School Diploma or GED required
โ€ข Experience in animal care
โ€ข American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification is preferred.
