Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for a Student Instructional Support Specialist- Institutional Student Worker. The Student Instructional Support Specialist will work as part of the Affordable Learning Georgia (ALG) Round 29 grant team led by Professor Joel Potter (Department of Economics). The student will contribute to improving the accessibility of open educational resources for the Principles of Microeconomics course (ECON 2106) at the University of North Georgia. This position is funded through the ALG Continuous Improvement Grant (Spring 2026 - Spring 2027).
Responsibilities
  • Create high-quality alt-text and long descriptions (graphs, tables, and photos) across the course textbook and D2L question library.
  • Participate in initial training sessions on long description writing and D2L question library accessibility.
  • Revise alt-text/long descriptions in response to feedback and corrections provided by the Project Lead (PI).
  • Embed finalized alt-text/long descriptions into assigned portions of the D2L course materials and the open textbook (Word and PDF).
  • Attend weekly check-in meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to write clear, accurate, and pedagogically appropriate descriptions of economic graphs, tables, and visual content.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and alt-text best practices.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow established style guidelines for descriptions.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and/or PDF documents.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in the minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior coursework or experience in economics, education, writing, or accessibility is preferred but not required.
  • Training will be provided.
