    • Assignment to start June 1, 2026.
    • Assignment to end on August 1, 2026.
  • Ability to travel to different campus locations.
  • May include remote and virtual academic advising work outside an office.
Salary Hourly Rate is commensurate based on qualifications and relevant experience up to $23 Pay Basis Hourly Job Summary
The Academic Advisor II (Part Time) delivers individual and group academic advisement to current students and prospective students new to UT Arlington. Assists with the planning and delivery of an academic advising initiative, conducts proactive outreach, provides interventions for students with academic early alerts, and lends additional support to students on academic warning/probation. Responsible for facilitating the exchange of academic and technical information. Provide professional advisement to enhance the academic experience, student retention and completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct academic advising for current and prospective students utilizing multiple modalities such as in-person, virtual, phone, and email.
  • Provide guidance on academic topics such as degree requirements, relevant course selection, and provide students with assistance in setting and achieving educational and career goals.
  • Help students make informed academic decisions teaching them how to track their own academic progress, locate and interpret appropriate policies, and to utilize the tools and resources available.
  • Monitor the academic progress of a student caseload. This includes proactive outreach to provide students with just-in-time assistance.
  • Conduct verification of degree progress, removal of holds, and approval of various forms to ensure timely student progression, etc.
  • Analyze and interpret student data, transcripts, and placement results.
  • Enter advising notes into MyMav following best practices for documenting student appointments/contacts.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to proactively support assigned caseload in accordance with high-impact practices in academic advising and engagement.
  • Help improve existing policies and procedures.
  • Support initiatives such as campaigns to increase student enrollment and ways to increase student access to advisors (i.e. virtual office hours, group advising, etc.). This includes committee membership, chairing committees, developing/facilitating educational workshops, and assisting with departmental goals of using data-informed practice to increase student success outcome.
  • Assist in developing and promoting student success and retention strategies and provide support to special populations such as major exploration, UT CAP and dual credit.
  • Participate in meetings, professional conferences, and individual professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with college students or adolescents in an advising capacity or the equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as an academic advisor at a public R1 University.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge Of:
    • Federal, state, and local policies and procedures governing academic advising functions; and resources provided by academic advising associations such as NACADA and TEXAAN. A working knowledge and ability to utilize the University Catalog is essential.
  • Skill In:
    • Student advocacy; written and verbal interpersonal communication; organizing information and projects; problem solving; adhering to deadlines; taking initiative; student recruitment and outreach; and navigating student information systems.
  • Ability To:
    • Work professionally, collaboratively, and independently; and proficiently use Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working collaboratively with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and experiences.
